(Minghui.org) The most fundamental thing a practitioner should do is to study the Fa well. To do so, we should follow Master’s instructions and read the Fa cover to cover. This way of studying the Fa is suitable for both new and veteran practitioners.

Recently, I learned that some practitioners did not follow Master’s instructions to read cover to cover. Instead, they finished reading a passage, stopped, shared their understanding of the meaning of the passage, and went on to the next passage.

This new way of studying didn’t seem to follow Master’s instruction on reading cover to cover. Master has already taught us how to study the Fa well. We can improve our cultivation only by following Master’s teachings, and we should have known that by now.

If one studied on his own, this wouldn’t have mattered. However, if we changed the way of Fa studying that Master has taught us when we study as a group, this is no trivial matter. Perhaps some new practitioners “feel” that sharing in between passages allows them to understand the Fa better, but that was only an ordinary person’s feeling. No matter how good someone “feels” about a different way of Fa study, if it didn’t conform to Master’s teachings, the result will be that we remain ordinary people, be misguided by our notions, or even disrupt the Fa.

This sharing is my understanding, and I want to remind fellow practitioners with good intentions. Let’s review what Master said,

“We shouldn’t study a passage, stop, start a discussion, and then study another passage, and discuss more—that’s no good. You need to read it cover to cover a lot. The time spent on talking about yourselves or your understandings shouldn’t be more than the time spent on reading the Fa. Studying the Fa is the most crucial thing.” (“Teachings at the Conference of Changchun Assistants”)

“Student: Is it good for us to have group reading of Zhuan Falun three times a week without spending time on discussion?

Master: That’s fine. What do you need so much time for to talk about? Read the book from cover to cover and use all of your time to study the Fa. (Applause) Of course, it’s also necessary to find some time to discuss your experiences and understanding. You can share thoughts after doing your daily exercises.” (“Teachings at the Conference in Singapore”)
