Ms. Zhang Lanfang, of Lingwu City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, passed away on June 27, 2020, after suffering years of persecution for practicing Falun Gong.
Ms. Zhang, a former worker at the Lingwu City Furniture Factory, was first arrested in January 2004, while talking to another Falun Gong practitioner on the street. The police raided her home and took her to the Yinchuan City Detention Center on January 14, where she was held for two weeks.
The police continued to harass Ms. Zhang after she returned home. They arrested her again in March 2004 and took her to the Yinchuan Brainwashing Center for a month. She was forced to write a statement to renounce Falun Gong against her will.
Ms. Zhang appeared in the Lingwu City Court on December 16, 2005 and was sentenced to 1.5 years. She was forced to make clothes while serving time at the Ningxia Women’s Prison.
Due to mental pressure from the police harassment over the years, Ms. Zhang was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017. Yet the police didn’t stop coming to her home to harass her. She died on June 27, 2020.
