Beijing Woman Gets Second Prison Sentence for Practicing Falun Gong

Sept. 27, 2024 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Beijing, China

(Minghui.org) A Beijing woman was sentenced to one year and five months with a 4,000-yuan fine on September 13, 2024 for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.

Ms. Li Ruiling, a native of Chaoyang District, Beijing, was arrested at her rental place in Shunyi District in the same city on October 3, 2023. The arresting officers from the Niulanshan Police Station confiscated her Falun Gong informational materials and took her to an unknown location.

Ms. Li was given criminal detention the next day and issued a formal arrest warrant on November 10, 2023. The Shunyi District Police Department, which oversees the Niulanshan Police Station, submitted her case to the Shunyi District Procuratorate on January 3, 2024. Due to insufficient evidence, the procuratorate twice returned the case to the police department, which, however, still managed to have the procuratorate indict Ms. Li.

After the procuratorate forwarded the case to the Shunyi District Court on June 11, 2024, Ms. Li was tried virtually on August 14 and convicted on September 13.

Prior to her latest sentencing, Ms. Li was given two years with a 4,000-yuan fine following an arrest on January 20, 2020. See the related report for details of her previous persecution.
