Eliminating My Unkind Thoughts about My Husband

Sept. 11, 2024 |   By a Falun Dafa practitioner in China

(Minghui.org) My husband and I are both practitioners, but instead of progressing together in cultivation, we had a lot of conflicts and would complain and blame each other. I often pointed out that he did not act like a practitioner and, to save face, he would then pick on me and say that some of my conduct didn’t conform to the Fa. There didn’t seem to be any compassion between us. I’d remind him to study the Fa more diligently, but I said it as criticism, and he rarely listened. I knew these were tests to help me improve, but I kept failing them.

One day, my husband was working outside and asked me to put his tools away for him. I was in the middle of reading a sharing article online and didn’t feel like stopping. I knew that he could easily put his tools away himself as there were only two of them. However, I knew I must be considerate and it would be one less thing for him to worry about if I did what he asked. I brought his tools inside, but I left the power cord outside, because I knew he’d need it to set up a light if he had to work late.

As soon as I’d taken care of the tools and sat down in front of my computer again, I heard him yelling angrily, “Why did you only do half of the job? Don’t you know how to put the power cord away?!” I knew I shouldn’t argue, so I went outside to put away the cord, but I felt really moved emotionally.

The test wasn’t over. My husband continued, “You can’t put things away like that; you have to do it this way.”

I tried very hard to hold back my anger and not fight about it. All kinds of thoughts about what I could say to win the argument flashed through my mind. Suddenly, one thought emerged: “If I lose control and argue with him, his resentment of me will get the better of him. Wouldn’t I be making things worse for him?” Right then, my unkind thoughts about how to challenge my husband vanished.

As he stood there, I did everything he asked me to do. Afterward, I saw the look in his eyes became a lot kinder, as if he felt relieved. I knew that the evil in his mind had been dissolved by compassion.

Master said,

“Disciples of Dafa journey the earth with compassionTheir good will saves lives, purging the evil specter” (“Stirred by Reflection,” Hong Yin IV)

My thoughts had conformed to the Fa at a certain level of the universe, and the beings on that level approved of what I did and were saved by Dafa. I thank Master for his salvation.
