(Minghui.org) Today’s news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 9 cities or counties in 9 provinces, where at least 22 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.
Mr. Jia Hongqi, 77, and his wife Ms. Wang Cunhuan, 74, were arrested in 2022 for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. They have been detained in the Chaoyang District Detention Center since. Their family didn’t receive any update about their cases until July 2024 when they heard that the couple have been sentenced to three and a half years in prison each. Other details about their cases remain unknown.
Mr. Wei Bin was arrested at home on June 18, 2021 and later sentenced to six years in prison with a 6,000-yuan fine. He is currently on a hunger strike to protest the abuse in the Jiazhou Prison.
Mr. Han Chunlong was arrested on October 2, 2023 for sending text messages about Falun Gong. He was tried by the Dadong District Court on February 2, 2024 and sentenced to four years in prison with a 30,000-yuan fine on March 25, 2024.
Mr. Han appealed with the Shenyang City Intermediate Court, which ruled to uphold his original verdict on July 25, 2024. He is still detained in the Dadong District Detention Center at the time of writing.
Ms. Li Baohong, 58, was arrested by officers from the Huoju Road Police Station in Gaoxin District on January 16, 2024. Her home was ransacked at 9 p.m. on January 17, 2024. The police confiscated her Falun Gong books, informational materials and 100 yuan in cash. She was detained for 14 days.
Ms. Li applied for administrative reconsideration after she was released. She hasn’t received any official response after four months, but faced constant threats and harassment by the authorities.
Xue Hui from the Changchun Automobile Factory was arrested around July 18, 2024. Xue has been released.
Eleven practitioners were arrested in Qignyuan County on July 12, 2024. Except that Mr. Li Defa was released on the same day, the five male practitioners, including Mr. Wang Nanfang, Mr. Wang Zexing, Mr. Wang (first name unknown), Mr. Zhou Shuyou, and Mr. Liu Haitao, were taken to the Dashagou Detention Center, and the five female practitioners, including Ms. Hu Fengju, Ms. Hu Mingli, Ms. Huang Ping, Ms. Lai Chunlian, and Ms. Li Shuqin, were admitted to the Nangou Detention Center in Fushun City.
Among the practitioners, Ms. Li was released on bail for medical treatment on July 18, 2024, and Mr. Liu and Mr. Wang (first name unknown) were released on bail on July 25, 2024. Mr. Wang noticed people monitoring him outside his home shortly after returned home.
Mr. Wang Nanfang, Mr. Zhou and Mr. Wang Zexing are still detained in the Dashagou Detention Center. Their lawyers were denied to visit them.
A twelfth practitioner, Ms. Liu Jinyan from Qingyan County, received a harassing call from police on July 13, 2024, asking about her address and other personal information.
Ms. Wang Qiongying bought train tickets for her and her child to travel from Xichang to Chongqing on July 18, 2024 for a wedding. While she was waiting to board the train, the railway police officers came over to search her luggage. She asked them why they were searching her, as she had already passed the security. The police said her profile indicated that she was a cult member. They also asked whether her local police had talked to her about it. It occurred to her that her local police must have flagged her ID, as she was required to swipe her ID while passing the security check point. She tried to take a picture of her “cult member” profile so she could approach the authorities to rectify the false label, but the railway police didn’t let her.
Ms. Yan Zhenxiang was detained 15 days and has been released on July 23, 2024.
Ms. Lou Sulan and Zhang (gender and first name unknown), both from Nanqiaosi Residential Community, both had their homes raided around mid-July 2024.
