Meizhou City, Guangdong Province: Six Falun Gong Practitioners Face Trial for Their Faith

(Minghui.org) Six Meizhou City, Guangdong Province residents are scheduled to stand trial in the Meixian District Court on September 12, 2024 for their faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

The six practitioners are Ms. Zhang Taofeng, Ms. Liu Meifen, Ms. Zeng Xiuqiong, Ms. Xie Guofen, Ms. Li Lizhen, and Ms. Wang Shuzhen. All six are in detention, except Ms. Liu who is out on bail. 

Thirteen officers from the Meixian District Domestic Security Division and Chengjiang Town Police Station broke into Ms. Zhang’s and Ms. Liu’s respective homes on the afternoon of April 17, 2024. Ms. Zhang’s computer, printer and portrait of Falun Gong’s founder were taken away. Ms. Liu’s computer and Falun Gong books were confiscated. As Ms. Liu had been diagnosed with cancer, the police didn’t arrest her. 

The same group of officers also arrested Ms. Zeng and Ms. Xie on the same day, at Ms. Zeng’s home. They confiscated Ms. Zeng’s Falun Gong books and portrait of Falun Gong’s founder, and several thousand yuan in cash from Ms. Xie’s home.

While another six practitioners who were at Ms. Zeng’s home were also seized by the police, they were later released and cleared of prosecution. Among them, Ms. Fan Laiying and Ms. Liu Biqing were released the next day due to advanced age and high blood pressure, respectively; Ms. Zou Xiufen, Ms. Zeng Xizhen, Mr. Liu Haixiong, and Ms. He Xinlan were detained for 15 days and released on May 3. 

Ms. Zhang, Ms. Zeng Xiuqiong, and Ms. Xie were held at a detention center in Zhuyang Village, Chengdong Town, Meixian District.

The fifth practitioner who is facing trial, Ms. Li, was arrested in mid-May 2024. She is detained at the Chengdong Detention Center.

Details about the arrest of the sixth practitioner facing trial, Ms. Wang, aren’t yet clear.
