76-Year-Old Hubei Woman Taken Back Into Custody While Serving a 3-Year Term Outside of Prison

(Minghui.org) A 76-year-old woman serving time outside of prison for practicing Falun Gong was taken back into custody on August 6, 2024. The arresting officers promised to release her in two days but she is still detained at the time of this report.

The ordeal of Ms. Lu Chaoxiu, of Zhongxiang City, Hubei Province, stemmed from her arrest in 2022, after she was reported for distributing informational materials exposing the Chinese Communist Party’s persecution of her faith, Falun Gong. The Yicheng City Police Department released her on bail on June 23, 2022. Yicheng City borders Zhongxiang City.

The Huji Police Station summoned Ms. Lu for interrogation on December 6, 2023. She was allowed to go home afterwards.

The Yicheng City Court tried Ms. Lu on March 1, 2024 and sentenced her to three years to be served outside of prison. The ruling bore the signatures of prosecutor Yang Junfeng from the Yicheng City Procuratorate and his assistant Wang Man, presiding judge He Weili (+86-19313992909), judges Liu Xiaoyan and Guo Jian, as well as assistant to judges, Xiang Yuanqi.

Ms. Lu’s husband, Mr. Deng Guilin, was ordered to keep a close eye on her. He forced her to watch TV every day instead of doing the Falun Gong exercises. He also did not allow her to go out alone or contact any other local Falun Gong practitioners. He beat her when she defied his orders.

Several agents showed up at Ms. Lu’s home on August 6, 2024. One of them said he was surnamed Zuo with a phone number of +86-13607272668. He promised to bring Ms. Lu home in two days but did not.

This is not the first time that Ms. Lu has been targeted for her faith, which she credits for restoring her health and helping her become a better person. She was repeatedly targeted for upholding her faith after the persecution of Falun Gong began in July 1999.

Chief Zhang Heng and instructor Li Chuansheng from the Dayukou Police Station raided Ms. Lu’s home in January 2000. They confiscated all her Falun Gong books and kept her at the police station for one day. They threatened her husband and ordered him to monitor her every move or his pay would be suspended. During the Chinese New Year in 2001, Ms. Lu went to visit her relatives and her husband’s supervisor forced him to lead them to look for her.

Instructor Li took Ms. Lu to a brainwashing center in June 2004 and kept her there for one month. She was forced to watch TV programs smearing Falun Gong and ordered to write statements to renounce Falun Gong. When she refused, she was tortured and deprived of sleep.

Ms. Lu was arrested again in 2006 after she was reported for talking to a person about Falun Gong at a local farmers’ market. Several officers from the Huji Police Station soon arrived and beat her. They took her to the police station and restrained her on a tiger bench. They kicked her feet so hard that her shoes broke.
