(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 10 cities or counties in 7 provinces, where at least 20 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

1. [Yinchuan City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region] Ms. Zhang Yuzheng Faces Trial

Ms. Zhang Yuzheng will be tried by the Xixia District Court on June 28, 2024.

2. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Xu Yunlan Serving Time at Liaoning Province Women’s Prison

Ms. Xu Yunlan was arrested at home on June 3, 2021. She was indicted by the Shahekou District Procuratorate. She was tried on April 12, 2023, and sentenced to a year in prison. Her appeal was denied by the Dalian City Intermediate Court. The authorities kept her family in the dark about her whereabouts. According to another Falun Gong practitioner who was recently released from Liaoning Province Women’s Prison, she saw Ms. Xu in prison and she was thin and weak, but she did not know when Ms. Xu was admitted to prison. 

3. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Sun Meiyan Admitted to Prison, Ms. Yuan Suxin’s Situation Unknown

Ms. Sun Meiyan, Ms. Yuan Suxin, and Ms. Liu Aidong were arrested on April 17, 2023, for talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong. Their homes were ransacked that night. While Ms. Liu was released on April 23, Ms. Sun and Ms. Yuan remained in custody. It’s recently confirmed by Minghui.org that Ms. Sun was admitted to Liaoning Province Women’s Prison around late April 2024 to serve a 1.5-year term. But details about Ms. Yuan’s case aren’t clear.

4. [Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province] Mr. He Hongjun, Ms. Fu Wenhui and Mr. Lan Qingzhong Formally Arrested

Mr. He Hongjun and his wife Ms. Fu Wenhui, of Chaoyang City, Liaoning Province, went to Mr. Lan Qingzhong’s printer shop in Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia (about 100 miles away) around 9 a.m. on May 11, 2024. As soon as they arrived, a group of plainclothes officers from the Qianjin Police Department of Chaoyang City rushed in. They confiscated Mr. Lan’s printers, computers, and 320,000 yuan cash. The 120,000 yuan cash from the couple was also seized. 

Officers from the Qianjin Police Department and Chaoyang City Domestic Security Division escorted Mr. He back to his home in Chaoyang City. They seized more cash of 91,000 yuan, his home keys, car keys, and other items. Mr. He’s daughter who shared the residence with them could not return home and had to stay with a relative with her child. The three practitioners have been formally arrested and the police in Chaoyang denied their lawyer’s visit.

5. [Pengzhou City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Yang Shizhen Detained

Ms. Yang Shizhen of Shengping Township was arrested in Bailu Town by Bailu Police Station officers for talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong at noon on June 22, 2024. Officers from Shengping Police Station ransacked her home but didn’t find any Falun Gong-related materials. She was given 15 days of detention.

6. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Sun Guofeng Arrested, Mr. Sun Xue Harassed

Ms. Sun Guofeng, 79, of Bayan County was arrested by Shiqiao Police Station officers in 2023. The officers ransacked her home, seized all of her Falun Gong books, and took her to the police station. After that, she was arrested two more times after being reported for talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong and handing out Falun Gong flyers. In May and June 2024, the police went to her home and took her picture against her will.

Mr. Sun Xue talked to customers about the persecution of Falun Gong in his supermarket. Someone reported him. An officer went to his store and tried to arrest him. He relented as Mr. Sun insisted he didn’t do anything wrong.

7. [Foshan City, Guangdong Province] Ms. Zhou Jinmei Harassed

Ms. Zhou Jinmei, in her 70s, lives alone in Lishui Town, Nanhai District. Recently, agents from Nanhai District Political and Legal Affairs Committee and over 20 officers from Lishui Police Station broke into her home, threatened her, seized her Falun Gong books and printouts, and ordered her to stay home from Monday to Wednesday.

8. [Shuining City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Pu Zexiu and Ms. Chen Weixin Released on Bail

Ms. Pu Zexiu, 85, and Ms. Chen Weixin, 79, talked to people in the street about the persecution of Falun Gong and handed people Falun Gong flyers on April 1, 2024. Plainclothes officers followed and arrested them. On June 6, 2024, their sons got calls from Kaixuanlu Police Station. They were told to bring their mothers to the police station. Ms. Pu and Ms. Chen went to the police station with their family members the next day. However, instead of directly talking to them, the police had their sons sign all the paperwork. After that, the two women and their sons were taken to the Chuanshan District Procuratorate, where the staffers also just talked to the sons and had them sign all the paperwork.

Ms. Pu and Ms. Chen later learned from their sons that they had been put on bail and are awaiting indictment.

9. [Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province] Five Practitioners Arrested While Studying Falun Gong Books

Ms. Xu Guirong, Ms. Hong Benrong, Liu (first name and gender unknown), Ms. Tian Shujun, and Ms. Sun Jifen were arrested by captain Han Feng from Haigang Domestic Security Division and many plainclothes officers from Beibuyuanqu Police Station after 4 p.m. on June 21, 2024, when they were reading Zhuan Falun at Ms. Tian’s home. Without a search warrant, the police confiscated Ms. Tian’s Falun Gong books, envelopes, stamps, and other items. Ms. Xu’s family was harassed after her arrest.

The practitioners were interrogated. Their families were ordered via the phone to pay a 2,000 yuan bail bond before their release. Four practitioners’ families refused to pay. One practitioner’s family paid the bail bond to the Domestic Security Division for all five practitioners. The practitioners were released on bail around 3 a.m. on June 22. 

10. [Chongqing] Ms. Tang Xianbi Arrested

Ms. Tang Xianbi was arrested at home around 9 a.m. by a group of officers from Guojiatuo Police Station on May 31, 2024. The officers said that she was recorded by surveillance camera distributing Falun Gong flyers. Someone also reported her for doing so. They confiscated her computer, printer, Falun Gong books and printouts, four MP3 players, a cell phone, a charging cable, and other items.

Ms. Tang was taken to a police department. They forced her to wear a yellow jacket, handcuffed her, photographed her, measured her height and weight, checked her eyes, and collected fingerprints on her right hand. They also interrogated her, questioning her for the source of her books and printouts. They threatened to ruin her family members’ careers if she didn’t comply. She was forced to be photographed pointing to her confiscated items on the ground. The interrogation lasted until 5 p.m. They then took her to the place where she distributed the flyers and took three pictures of her there. She was taken back to Guojiatuo Police Station and released after 10 p.m.

Ms. Tang’s son worked for Guojiatuo Residential Community. A manager, whose family name was Zhou, spoke to him daily for several days. He threatened to fire him and ordered him to move his and his mother’s household residence registration out of the community.

11. [Liquan County, Shaanxi Province] Ms. Zhang Xueya and Mr. Zhao Chong’an Detained

Ms. Zhang Xueya and her husband Mr. Zhao Chong’an were arrested by officers of the Yanta District Police Department on April 26, 2024. Ms. Zhang was taken to the Qindu District Detention Center and Mr. Zhao to the Qian County Detention Center the next day. Mr. Zhao has developed a severe medical condition in custody. Their two sons worry about him and have applied to have him released on bail.
