(Minghui.org) Seven residents of Qingyuan County, Liaoning Province, were arrested early in the morning on July 12, 2024, for their faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
The arresting officers were from the Qingyuan County Police Department and its subordinates Henan and Hebei Police Stations. They broke into the seven practitioners’ homes and confiscated a large amount of valuables.
The arrested practitioners were Mr. Wang Nanfang, Mr. Zhou Shuyou, Ms. Hu Fengju, Mr. Wang Zexing, Mr. Lai Chunlian, Ms. Hu Mingli, and Ms. Li Shuqin. The first three have been repeatedly targeted in the past.
Mr. Wang, 67, suffered from epilepsy, severe neurosis, and gastric tumors. No medical treatment worked, but all his symptoms disappeared just a few months after he took up Falun Gong in March 1997. He also learned to be a better person and a more conscientious worker.
Mr. Wang held firm to his faith after the persecution began and was repeatedly targeted. He was arrested on June 28, 2008, and given two years of forced labor on July 19 that year. After another arrest on November 25, 2011, Mr. Wang was given one year of forced labor days later on December 9. He was allowed to serve time outside of the labor camp after he failed the required physical examination.
Mr. Zhou, 60, began practicing Falun Gong in July 1997. He was given two years of forced labor in 2001 and brutally tortured. For more than 120 days, he was hung up to the top of a bunk bed for long hours every day.
After another arrest on March 21, 2005, Mr. Zhou suffered brutal torture in the local police station. The police forced him to sit on the ground and do leg splits. They kicked him on the head and his private parts. Due to the severe torture and beatings, his testicles became extremely swollen and he was unable to walk without assistance. He also had intense pain in his abdomen and was unable to stand up. The police tortured him the entire night and did not stop until 9:00 a.m. the next day (see the third related report for further details of his torture).
Instead of rendering medical attention to Mr. Zhou, the police gave him an unknown term of forced labor at the Wujiabao Forced Labor Camp in Fushun City.
Ms. Hu, 61, credits Falun Gong for restoring her health. She went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong in November 1999 and was arrested. She was taken to the Fushun City Liaison Office in Beijing before being escorted back to Qingyuan County. She was held at the Dashagou Detention Center for 37 days and then given one and a half years of forced labor.
Ms. Hu was initially transferred to the Wujiabao Labor Camp in Fushun City in December 1999. She was forced to watch and read anti-Falun Gong materials there. On March 1, 2000, she was moved to the Masanjia Labor Camp in Shenyang City. She was again subjected to brainwashing, forced labor, and other forms of abuse, including sitting on a small stool motionless for long periods of time.
Ms. Hu was arrested again on September 24, 2012, and taken to the Fushun City Detention Center the next day. She was detained for 37 days before being released. Officer Peng Yue extorted 20,000 yuan from her family.
When Ms. Hu was not in detention, she and her family faced constant harassment from the local police and the street committee. Her husband lived in fear and had a stroke in May 2008. He became paralyzed and died in November 2010.
