(Minghui.org) A rural doctor in Chendian Township, Anlu City, Hubei Province was taken to the Changsong Village Brainwashing Center on June 14, 2024 for his faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
Dr. Zhou Binsheng was arrested on June 5, 2024 by two officers from the Chendian Township Police Station. They held him at the lockup affiliated with the Anlu City Police Department for ten days before transferring him to the brainwashing center.
Dr. Zhou is known among locals for treating intractable diseases. He could have gone to a bigger city to make more money given his medical expertise, but he remained in Chendian to serve his fellow villagers. He never hesitated to make house calls in the middle of the night when patients requested help. Such a beloved doctor, however, is now in detention simply for his faith in Falun Gong.
Another professional, Mr. Huang Xuejun, a pharmacist around 56, is also being held at the same brainwashing center for practicing Falun Gong. Mr. Huang was arrested in Wuhan (the capital city of Hubei Province) and taken back to Anlu. After 37 days at an unknown facility, he was transferred to the brainwashing center. Prior to his latest arrest, he was previously sentenced to four years following an arrest on September 10, 2016. After he was released, he was fired by the Puai Hospital in Anlu City. He did odd jobs here and there to make a living, but was arrested again in Wuhan.
According to insiders, secretary Sui Chunlong of the Xiaogan City Political and Legal Affairs Committee (PLAC) was the mastermind behind the Changsong Village Brainwashing Center in Anlu City, which is under the administration of Xiaogan.
The PLAC is an extrajudicial agency tasked with overseeing the persecution of Falun Gong and has branches at every government level. After Sui was appointed the PLAC secretary in 2022, he worked hand in glove with Guo Binren, chief of the Xiaogan City Police Department, and ordered the establishment of brainwashing centers everywhere in Xiaogan and its subordinate cities and counties.
Luo Minghai, secretary of the Anlu PLAC, and Yang Junwen, head of the 610 Office are now in charge of the Changsong Village Brainwashing Center. Under their directive, at least 11 other local practitioners besides Dr. Zhou and Mr. Huang were held at the same brainwashing center at one point or another in the past two years.
The Minghui website previously reported that eight other Anlu residents were arrested months apart in 2023 and were all initially held at the brainwashing center before being released or transferred.
The arrest times were: Ms. Liu Ping on August 11; Ms. Xu Guiyun, Ms. Sun Youlan, Ms. Mao Cuiying, and Ms. Shi Liying, around 70, on September 19; Ms. Wu Xiufang, 73, and Ms. Kong Jiuhong on October 24; and Ms. Yang Furong on November 15.
Five of the practitioners were later sentenced to prison by the same Anlu City Court. Ms. Wu, Ms. Mao, Ms. Xu, and Ms. Shi were each sentenced to prison terms of around seven months with 3,000-yuan fines on April 17, 2024. Ms. Kong was sentenced to seven years on May 7, 2024. It is unclear where they are currently held.
Ms. Yang became paralyzed in her lower body after being tortured at the brainwashing center. The police refused to release her and secretly admitted her to Puai Hospital. After her loved ones found out about what happened, they called the mayor’s complaint hotline. Only then was she released.
Ms. Sun was transferred to a local detention center in November 2023. Her case status as well as that of Ms. Liu’s remain to be investigated.
In addition to Dr. Zhou and Mr. Huang, as well as the eight already reported cases, Minghui.org also received information of the following three Anlu practitioners:
Mr. Yan Ji was arrested at work on May 24, 2022 and taken to the brainwashing center. After he was released three months later, the Anlu City Police Department forced him to retire and put him under close surveillance.
Ms. Yang’s husband, Mr. Yan Youzhong, was arrested on March 12, 2024 and taken to the Anlu City Lockup. He was released 37 days later, only to be re-arrested and taken to the brainwashing center.
Ms. Liu Chunyan, in her 60s, was taken to the brainwashing center on May 8, 2024. She was once sentenced to eight years following a prior arrest in May 2010.
