(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 8 cities or counties in 5 provinces, where at least 14 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.
When Ms. Sun Zhongying, around 70, talked to people about the persecution of Falun Gong, someone reported her. Police went to her home to question her and tried to collect evidence. Her case was handled in another city. She was sentenced to three years in prison. She was sent to Jinan Women’s Prison in May, 2023. She now has problems with her eyesight.
Mr. Wen Yongshu’s trial is scheduled for January 30, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. in the Xishan District Court No. 25.
His relatives and friends wanted to observe the trial. Judge Pu Huijun said they would be allowed only if they showed a photo of themselves with Mr. Wen as proof of their relationship.
Mr. Yang Fan, in his early 50s, lives with his parents. His mother was arrested for distributing Falun Gong flyers last week. Their home was ransacked. Police said his mother was too old and released her. They arrested and detained him.
Ms. Chen Xuefen distributed Falun Gong flyers. She was under police surveillance and was arrested at home. Her whereabouts are unknown.
Ms. Wang Lei was among the five practitioners who were arrested by Suifenhe police on January 18, 2024. She did not cooperate with them and did not answer any questions during the interrogation. She was put into the Mudanjiang Detention Center. Her family hired a lawyer who met her in the detention center.
Chen Wei, gender unknown, was harassed by officers from the Jiangzhen Police Station during the 2023 China International Import Expo (November 5 to 10, 2023).
Officer Zhu Gong and others wearing police body cameras went to Chen’s home. They said they were there for “formal” questioning, such as do you have a job, which company do you work for, do you have relatives in Shanghai, their contact information, etc.
Two days later, officers installed surveillance camcorder directly facing Chen’s door. During the expo, they sent two people and stationed them outside of Chen’s home every day. Whenever Chen left home, he or she was followed. Zhu ordered Chen to send messages or call every day to report his or her activities in advance.
In early January, 2024, officers pressured Chen’s landlord to end the lease. Chen went twice to the police station and tried to work things out, but it was fruitless.
Ms. Zhang Chenyang lives in the First Branch of Lianhuapao Farm in Qianguo County. She was detained for seven days by officers from the Qianguo County Police Department on December 2, 2023. Three days after she was released, she was arrested again by the Songyuan City Police Department and put into the Songyuan City Shanyou Detention Center. She has been held there for more than a month.
Her family was extorted 10,000 yuan during her first detention. The court extorted several thousand yuan after her second arrest. Her and her family’s cell phones were confiscated.
Ms. Wang Fenghua is a resident of Dachengzi Town, Miyun District. She talked to people about the persecution of Falun Gong while she stayed in her daughter’s home in Beijing and was tracked by police. She was arrested at her home in the Miyun District on January 10, 2024. Officers ransacked her place and confiscated her Falun Gong books, printers, computers, and other items. Police monitored her cell phone and found another practitioner, Ms. Wang Cuijian of Cuijuan of Jugezhuang Town, Miyun District. The officers ransacked Ms. Wang Cuijian’s home the same day, seized her Falun Gong books and other items. She escaped. Officers are looking for her and plan to arrest her. She has to keep moving from place to place.
