(Minghui.org) I often go out with fellow practitioners to talk to people about Falun Dafa. One day when we were in a park talking to two middle-aged women, an older man carrying a big bag came over and asked me, “Do you know if So and So’s memorial is around here?” I could tell that he was not a local and he had traveled a long way.
I told him that there was no such memorial, “Actually, that guy was just a low-ranking soldier who died young. In order to build up its image, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) turned him into a hero. They created many fake heroes to deceive the people.”
Disappointed, the man said, “I heard about this memorial from my friends. It took me a long time to get here by bus.” He turned around and left.
A fellow practitioner reminded me to give him some of our Falun Dafa materials. I realized that it was a great chance to talk to him, so I caught up with him, handed him a copy of The Ultimate Goal of Communism, and said, “This is a good book for you.”
He took it, looked at the cover, and said, “I would like to talk to you about his.” So we found a bench and sat down.
He told me that he was 74 years old and he loved to read, but, sadly, he couldn’t read as much as he used to because his eyes weren’t very good anymore. I said, “I can tell you are an educated person. How about I tell you what the book is about?” I told him about Falun Dafa in detail, how it is welcomed all over the world, how the Party and its leader Jiang Zemin launched the persecution of Falun Dafa practitioners, and why they were frightened of Falun Dafa. I also talked about the history of the Communist Party.
He listened and nodded from time to time. I could tell that he didn’t like the Party either. I gave him an amulet with the words “Falun Dafa is good, Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance is good.” He looked at it carefully as he held it in his hands, and said, “Thank you!”
When I asked him if he’d ever joined any of the CCP organizations, he said he’d joined the Young Pioneers. I said, “Do you remember that when you joined, you were told to swear to dedicate your life to it? You don’t want to be implicated when it goes down. Why don’t you quit the organization?” He agreed.
Since his eyesight was not good, I realized that my “Truth Radio,” which had a lot about Falun Dafa in audio format saved on it, was more suitable for him. However, I hadn’t brought it with me that day, so I asked him if he would wait for me to go get it. I told him it would take me about an hour to go home and come back. He immediately agreed: “OK! I will wait here. I won’t go anywhere.”
I headed straight home. But because I had to wait for buses both ways, it took me over an hour to get back to the park, and I was worried that he might have left. When I got there, I saw him walking back and forth. I was happy and touched. I didn’t expect that to learn the truth, a man in his 70s would wait for me for more than an hour.
He was happy to see me and pointed to a cup on a bench with a name printed on the lid and an ID card sitting next to it. He said, “After hearing what you said and seeing what you did, I decided to quit the CCP with my real name, not an alias.” (To protect people from being harassed by the CCP, we often help people quit with an alias.)
He continued, “Here’s my ID. I am not scared of the CCP. I will use my real name! You know what? While I was waiting for you, I kept silently reciting those auspicious phrases.” He was sincere and determined.
When it was time for him to leave for home, I said, “Since you are not familiar with this area, let me walk you to the bus station.” He replied, “I was lucky to meet such a good person today. There are not many like you nowadays. It’s three o’clock in the afternoon, and you still haven’t had lunch. Thank you very much. I will pray for you.” I told him, “Don’t worry, I’m not hungry. Master Li, our teacher, taught us to be a good person. Please thank him.”
At the bus station, he told me that it had been a very worthwhile day and promised that he would tell his relatives what he had learned. As I watched him leave, I was filled with emotion knowing how far he had traveled to be saved.
