(Minghui.org) A 51-year-old Qinhuangdao City, Hebei Province resident was recently admitted to the Hebei Province Women’s Prison to serve a four-year term for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zhao Hongmei and another Falun Gong practitioner put up posters about Falun Gong in the Kaifa District on February 23, 2023 and were reported. By poring over the footage taken by street surveillance cameras, the police identified her and arrested her outside her father’s home on March 8, 2023. Her Falun Gong materials, computer, printer and cell phone were confiscated. She was held at the Qinhuangdao City Detention Center.
Ms. Zhao’s arrest devastated her father, who was in his 90s. His health quickly declined and he passed away in 2024, without seeing his daughter one last time.
Officers of the Kaifa District Domestic Security Division later submitted Ms. Zhao’s case to the local procuratorate, which indicted her and eventually resulted in her four-year sentence with a 5,000-yuan fine. Her sister wasn’t allowed to attend her court hearing.
Following Ms. Zhao’s conviction, the court garnished 5,000 yuan from her bank account to pay for the fine. Her employer, the local education agency, also fired her.
