(Minghui.org) A 65-year-old Tianjin resident was sentenced to two years on July 12, 2024 for raising awareness about the persecution of her faith, Falun Gong.
Ms. Yang Fujing was arrested at another Falun Gong practitioner’s home on January 8, 2022. The police confiscated 100 yuan paper currency from her, which bore printed information about the persecution. (Due to strict information censorship in China, Falun Gong practitioners have to use creative ways to raise awareness about the persecution, including printing short messages on paper currency.)
Not long after releasing Ms. Yang on bail, the police submitted her case to the Ninghe District Procuratorate. She was forced to live away from home to avoid the unlawful prosecution.
On June 24, 2024, Ms. Yang was suddenly surrounded by over ten officers when she took her grandson out for a walk. She was arrested and taken to the Ninghe District Detention Center, despite her poor physical condition after enduring years of persecution. With her family’s strong protest, the police released her on the second day, on the condition that she remained on call 24/7.
The Ninghe District Court held a hearing for Ms. Yang’s case on July 12, 2024 and sentenced her to two years. Still in poor health, she was taken back into custody at the Ninghe District Detention Center shortly after, while awaiting the result of her appeals.
Ms. Yang took up Falun Gong in 2012. Prior to that, she suffered multiple diseases, including high blood pressure, severe constipation and unpredictable states of shock. Her head remained heavy and dizzy all day long. She went to several hospitals, but none could pinpoint the causes. She and her family lived in fear, as she may go into shock anytime and anywhere.
After she began to practice Falun Gong, she strove to live by the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. Before she knew it, her blood pressure returned to normal, her head felt light and clear, her constipation disappeared and she no longer fell into shock. Both she and her family were grateful for the benefits she received.
For distributing informational materials about Falun Gong, Ms. Yang was arrested on the evening of August 26, 2015. Due to the physical and mental torment at the detention center, her high blood pressure recurred. Yet the police refused to provide medical treatment to her, nor did they release her.
Ms. Yang stood trial on January 26, 2016 and was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison. She continued to endure relentless torture at the Tianjin Women’s Prison. After she was released in February 2019, the police and government officials kept coming back to harass her, causing her to live in fear every day again.
