(Minghui.org) I recently heard that Zhao Hui, head of the local Domestic Security Office, no longer worked there, and had requested to be a regular police officer, so that he could avoid participating in the persecution of Falun Gong.
When Zhao took office a few years ago, he actively participated in arresting and harassing the practitioners. Some practitioners were sentenced as a result. But what has led him to change?
According to a practitioner’s family member who met Zhao on the street last year, Zhao began to struggle with various physical conditions after he became head of the Domestic Security Office. The doctor couldn’t find any major problems with his health, but he always felt uncomfortable.
Zhao recalled the fate of two of his predecessors. The first director, Zhang, who was leading the Domestic Security Office when the persecution started in July 1999, was particularly brutal to the practitioners. He not only tortured the practitioners, but also extorted a large amount of money from their families. After torturing two practitioners overnight, the next morning while driving to get breakfast, he crashed into a large truck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
After Zhang’s death, Xu took over his position. He also actively arrested and harassed the practitioners, leading to the sentencing of many of them. A few years ago, he was diagnosed with a terminal disease and quit his job to recover at home.
When Zhao developed physical discomfort after he assumed the position, he became scared and worried whether he would suffer a terrible fate as his two predecessors did. He asked his supervisor to transfer him to a different position, but was denied. In protest, he began to take frequent leaves from work. In the end, his supervisor demoted him to be a regular police officer at a local station and later transferred him to be a guard at a detention center.
