(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 14 cities or counties in 8 provinces, where at least 19 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.
Ms. Li Sumei, 55, will be tried in Baoding City’s Qingyuan Detention Center on August 18, 2023.
She was arrested on September 30, 2022 for posting Falun Gong flyers in her community in Jilin City, Jilin Province. Her home was ransacked. Her husband passed away many years ago. Her daughter, who is single, lives in another city. Her arrest was unnoticed until a relative went to her home and found the place had been ransacked. Her family finally learned that she was first held in Jilin Province’s Shulan City Detention Center for over a month. She was later taken to the Jilin City Detention Center.
Tian Wei, gender unknown, is a resident of Sanhe Village, Changfa Town, Changtu County. Tian was arrested in Shenyang City on July 23, 2023, and is being held in the Changtu County Detention Center. Practitioners distributed Falun Gong flyers in Changtu County on May 15. Some of them were arrested. Tian was identified through facial recognition.
Mr. Wang Zexuan and Liu Junmao, gender unknown, were arrested by officers from the Chishui City Police Station on August 9, 2023 after someone reported them for talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong. They are being held in the Zunyi City No. 3 Detention Center.
Feng Xiaoben, 80s, gender unknown, was arrested by Kuiwen District Domestic Security Division officers in February 2023, after a plainclothes officer reported that Feng talked to people in a park about the persecution of Falun Gong. Feng has been held in the Weifang Detention Center, and was sentenced to 18 months in prison by the Kuiwen Court.
Ms. Liu Ping, in her 40s, was arrested at home at around 10:00 a.m. on August 11, 2023 by Anlu City officers. The officers came in two police cars, ransacked her home, and seized her computers and Falun Gong related items. Bystanders noticed the police were holding cell phone trackers.
Ms. Sun Daifang of Tianmen City lives in Wuhan. She was arrested at home by officers from the Donghu Development Zone Domestic Security Division on August 8, 2023. Her home was ransacked. She was released on bail.
Hu Fengjun of Sanhe Village, Changfa Town, Changtu County, was arrested. The reason is unknown. Someone said Hu forwarded Falun Gong related content from a non-practitioner website. Hu’s home was ransacked.
Ms. Chang Zhuanye was arrested for talking to people about the persecution of Falun gong on the afternoon of August 10, 2023. The police searched her place that evening but did not find any Falun Gong materials. She was released the next day.
Ms. Yu Mei was arrested on the evening of August 11, 2023 by plainclothes officers from the Yongji Police Station who were waiting for her. She was taken to a detention center. It was said that she would be detained for 15 days.
Ms. Sun Qingqin, 62, lives in Sahejiayuan Community. She was arrested by officers from the Nanta Police Department on July 21, 2023, after someone reported her for talking to travelers about the persecution of Falun Gong in the new Chaoyang Transportation Center.
Wang Ying, Zhang Ruitong, and Meng Lili were arrested on March 29, 2023 by officers from the Donghe District Police Department’s Political Security Division and the Tiexi Police Station. They have since been held in the Donghe District Detention Center for almost five months. Donghe District Procuratorate prosecutor Guo Zhijun issued their arrest warrant on April 28, 2023.
Wang Ying maintained his or her innocence and refused to sign any document admitting guilt in the detention center. In retaliation, the guards did not allow Wang’s lawyer to visit Wang. The lawyer had several rounds of discussion with the procuratorate. The procuratorate mediated a lawyer visit. The lawyer learned that the guards did not allow Wang to purchase any daily necessities, and the money that Wang’s family put into his or her account was still there.
Mr. Zhao Chuanwu of Duozhuang Town was arrested, interrogated, and released on bail by Linyi City’s Zhanqian Police Station officers on October 20, 2022. Afterwards he repeatedly received harassing calls from the police station.
In mid-July 2023, officers from the police station repeatedly called him, and ordered him to report immediately to the police station to fill out documents. He did not go. The police then called his son and threatened to sue him.
Ms. Sun Shuzhi’s bag was grabbed by officers who were staked out when she had just walked up the stairs to the second floor of her apartment building on the morning of July 27, 2023. The officers took her key, opened her door, ransacked the place, seized a picture of the founder of Falun Gong, Falun Gong books, and her other belongings. They then went upstairs to her older sister, Ms. Sun Shuzhen’s home, seized a picture of the founder of Falun Gong, Falun Gong books, and other belongings. The sisters and Ms. Sun Shuzhen’s 15-month-old granddaughter were taken to the Dongchang Police Station and the Binjiang Police Station. Their neighbors heard the baby crying loudly.
After 8:00 p.m., Ms. Sun Shuzhen was taken to the Changliu Detention Center for a 10-day detention. After 10:00 p.m. Ms. Sun Shuzhi was taken to the same detention center for a 15-day detention.
Ms. Ni Ying, in her 60s, was arrested in 2021, which came shortly after the arrest of another practitioner, Ms. Wang Yinghong, on March 18, 2021. It’s reported the police began monitoring local practitioners when they noticed they frequently went to Ms. Wang’s place to pick up informational materials about Falun Gong. When she was interrogated by the police, Ms. Wang said the materials were provided by Ms. Ni.
The police arrested Ms. Ni and searched her home. They then released Ms. Wang, in order to monitor other practitioners who had contact with her. Ms. Ni was held at the Deyang City Detention Center. It has recently been confirmed that she was sentenced to four years in prison.
Ms. Wang Guili, 74, was arrested on November 6, 2021, for distributing information to expose the persecution of Falun Gong. She was released on bail for a year shortly afterward. The police abducted her at home on February 15, 2023 and took her to the Shijiazhuang City No. 2 Detention Center the next day.
During Ms. Wang’s court hearing in the Jinzhou City Court on June 21, 2023, the judge indicated that he intended to sentence her to one year in prison. According to an insider, when the Jinzhou City Court reported her sentence to the Shijiazhuang City Intermediate Court for approval (most of the prison sentences of Falun Gong practitioners are determined by the higher-ups in China), the higher court did not approve it, and asked for a heavier term. The judge announced around August 9 that he would sentence Ms. Wang to 3.5 years.
