(Minghui.org) What’s considered success in life? Some say achievements in one’s career; others say a harmonious family. Endless pursuit of success brought stress to many people in our society, especially young people. Many feel lost and anxious.
In most people’s eyes, Adel Fauzetdinova enjoyed great successes. Originally from Russia, Adel studied in Europe and North America, earned a Ph.D. degree in Latin and Literature, became an Assistant Professor at a young age, and had a great husband and a lovely son.
“On the surface my life looked perfect,” she said. “In modern society women must have a successful career, and sacrificing their career for family is something of the past.” Her new baby needed her care. Adel exhausted herself trying to balance work and family, and finally her health began deteriorating. Her doctor told her that she wouldn’t be able to have another child. She tried different treatments for years but none of them helped.
Agonized by her diseases, she tensed up psychologically due to stress and competition at work. Adel eventually got Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD.) She was afraid of being around others. Even the most minor thing triggered her anxiety. To ease her nervousness, Adel resorted to binge eating and then throwing up what she ate.
Adel finds tranquility in Falun Dafa.
Adel struggled in pain for years, until one day, a friend recommended she read the book Zhuan Falun. “I felt that everything changed after reading the book, as if I returned to my carefree childhood,” Adel said happily. “The principles in the book sound simple but are profound. The more I read the book, the more important I think it is to be compassionate and tolerant.”
Adel said that ever since she was young, she viewed the world as dangerous and wished to live with only good people on an isolated island. “I finally got rid of my fear! My childhood dream came true!”
She said that practicing Falun Dafa helped restore her physical and psychological health. Her SAD was gone. She became calm and relaxed, and even had another baby. “I feel I’m living a real life now!” Adel said happily.
As she improved her character through cultivation, Adel realized that she was able to easily handle things that she couldn’t handle before, such as a heavy workload and taking care of a sick baby. “If this happened three years ago, before I began practicing, I would have been anxious and complained about my husband. Compassion has changed me.
“Now, when I catch a negative thought, I get rid of it. I must be patient and compassionate,” Adel said. With a compassionate mindset she doesn’t feel tired even though she has to take of the children and sometimes loses sleep. She said she finally balanced her work and family life well, and became a good mother and wife. She also guides her children with Falun Dafa’s principles.
Adel remembers receiving a flyer about Falun Dafa in London many years ago. She thought the CCP’s persecution was terrible. “I do my best to tell others about Falun Dafa, hoping their positive response will bring them an opportunity to learn Falun Dafa, like what I experienced.” Adel admires the practitioners in China who stand firm despite the persecution. “My children and I wouldn’t have heard about Falun Dafa without them!”
