(Minghui.org) Today’s news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 17 cities or counties in 7 provinces, where at least 43 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

1. [Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province] Ms. Ma Xiujuan Faces Trial

Ms. Ma Xiujuan from Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province will be tried in the Xinzhou City Court in Shanxi Province on May 19, 2023.

2. [Tieling City, Liaoning Province] Five Practitioners Arrested

Five practitioners from Changfa Town, Changtu County, were arrested at around 9 p.m. on May 15, 2023 for distributing information about Falun Gong, including Mr. Zhao Chunlin and his wife, Liu Zhiyong, Meng Guilan, and Zhao Hongzhi.

3. [Anshan City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Zhao Yubo Sentenced to Three Years in Prison

Mr. Zhao Yubo was sentenced to three years in prison by the Lishan Court. He appealed to the intermediate court.

4. [Gong’an County, Hubei Province] Eight Practitioners Harassed

Three officers from the Nanping Town Police Station went to elderly Ms. Zhang’s home in early May 2023. They photographed her.

Three officers including Chen Yang from the Jiazhuyuan Town Police Station in Gong’an County, went to the home of Mr. Ma Chaobing and his wife Ms. Chen Xiuyu, and the home of Mr. Chen Xiaolou and his wife Ms. Zhu Guozhen on May 8, 2023. They took some photos and warned the practitioners not to go out and tell people about Falun Gong.

Mr. Liu Longping received a harassing call from the Wangjiatai Community Office in Douhuti Town on May 10, 2023.

Ms. Xu Cui’e was harassed at home by officers from the Douhuti Town Police Station in Gong’an County on May 11, 2023. They took some photos.

Mr. Zhou Hongjun was harassed at home by two officers from the Liulanghu Police Station in Douhuti Town. They took some photos.

5. [Baishan City, Jilin Province] Mr. Sun Changping Arrested and Detained

Four officers from the Lushuihe Town Police Station of Fusong County went to Mr. Sun Chongping’s home on May 13, 2023. They ransacked his home and confiscated two books. Mr. Sun was arrested and placed under a five-day detention.

6. [Qixia City, Shandong Province] Ms. Mu Lanying and Ms. Sun Shuxiang Arrested

Several officers from the Taocun Town Police Station went to Ms. Mu Lanying’s home on May 15, 2023. They ransacked the home and confiscated many personal belongings. They also arrested Ms. Mu and Ms. Sun Shuxiang who were visiting Ms. Mu. Ms. Sun was released in the afternoon.

7. [Wu’an City, Hebei Province] Ms. Du Jiying Arrested and Detained

Ms. Du Jiying was arrested at her shop in Wangmaoyuan in Liulan Street, Wu’an City by officers from the Chengguan Police Station at 3 p.m. on May 6, 2023. She was detained for five days and released on the morning of May 11, 2023.

8. [Shenyang City, Liaoning Province] Case Against Ms. Wang Xiuying Submitted to the Procuratorate

Ms. Wang Xiuying, 58, was arrested by officers from the Donghu Police Station in the Yuhong District on February 12, 2023. She was denied admission by the detention center because of high blood pressure. She was released and placed under residential surveillance. The case against her was submitted to the Yuhong District Procuratorate by Li Shilong and Zhang Shicheng from the Donghu Police Station.

9. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Tong Shurong Detained

Ms. Tong Shurong, 79, from the Ganjingzi District, was taken to the Ganjingzi District Court by officers from the Yingchengzi Police Station on May 15, 2023. She was denied admission by the detention center due to high blood pressure and was released in the evening.

10. [Sanhe City, Hebei Province] Three Practitioners Arrested

Ms. Sui Lixian from the Yanjiao Development Zone, along with two other practitioners who were visiting Ms. Sui, were arrested by officers from the Dongcheng Police Station on May 14, 2023. The three practitioners were sent to the Sanhe City Detention Center.

11. [Maoming City, Guangdong Province] Six Practitioners Arrested

Five practitioners from Shuidong Town, Dianbai District, were arrested at Mr. Ming’s home around May 13, 2023. They included Mr. Ming, Mr. Ming’s wife, Ms. Deng Mei, Ms. Shi Jing, and Ms. Li Yufang. The police ransacked the homes of Ms. Deng Mei, Ms. Shi Jing, and Ms. Li Yufang. The police confiscated a computer and printer from Ms. Li Yufang’s home. Ms. Guoyuan was also arrested that day.

Ms. Shi Jing, Ms. Deng Mei, Ms. Li Yufang, and Mr. Ming’s wife are being detained in the No. 1 Detention Center. Mr. Ming is detained in the Dianbai Detention Center.

12. [Tangshan City, Hebei Province] Mr. Bian Lichao Persecuted

Mr. Bian Lichao, an excellent teacher from No. 11 Middle School, was arrested on February 25, 2012. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison in July 2012 and was taken to the Baoding Prison in October 2012. Mr. Bian was transferred to the Shijiazhuang Prison in January 11, 2013. He should be released on June 24, 2023.

Mr. Bian’s wife, Ms. Zhou Xiuzhen, was also an excellent teacher at the No. 11 Middle School. She was sentenced to four years in prison on March 13, 2014 and was detained in Hebei Province Women’s Prison. She was harassed constantly after her release. Ms. Zhou passed away on the morning of April 19, 2020.

13. [Beijing] Ms. Jia Fengzhi Persecuted

Ms. Jia Fengzhi from Pinggu District was sentenced to three and a half years in prison and fined 35,000 yuan by the Pinggu District Court on September 7, 2020, for distributing desk calendars.

Ms. Jia was taken to the No. 3 Ward at Tiantanghe Women’s Prison in the Daxing District around November 18, 2021. She developed symptoms of a low platelet count and her body was covered in purple blotches (purpura). She was taken to emergency rooms four times. Her family tried to bail her out for medical treatment but their request was denied.

14. [Jingmen City, Hubei Province] Three Practitioners Sentenced to Prison

Ms. Liu Shiying, Ms. Bai Weiyun, and Ms. Qin Juan were sentenced to prison in early April 2023.

Ms. Liu Shiying was arrested in July 2022 for distributing information about Falun Gong. She was sentenced to one year in prison that was executed outside of prison, on October 28, 2022. Ms. Liu was summoned to the Longquan Police Station in April 2023 but did not return home. She is incarcerated in the Wuhan Women’s Prison and will be detained for one year.

Ms. Bai Weiyun was summoned to the local police station in April 2023 and has been detained. She will be detained for six months.

Ms. Qin Juan was summoned to a local police station in April 2023. She was sentenced to one year in prison. She was denied admission because of the result of her physical examination. She was placed under residential surveillance.

15. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Wang Riqing Arrested

Ms. Wang Riqing was arrested at a barber shop by two plainclothes officers on the afternoon of April 25, 2023. She was taken to the Youyi Police Station in Jinzhou District. She was denied admission by the Yaojia Detention Center and then by the Shahekou Detention Center because of her high blood pressure. Ms. Wang was released on the evening of April 26, 2023.

16. [Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province] Ms. Lu Mingxiu Arrested

Ms. Lu Mingxiu was reported to police for distributing information about Falun Gong and was arrested by officers from the Luoshe Police Station in Huishan District.

17. [Shulan City, Jilin Province] Mr. Bu Qingfan’s Home Ransacked

The police ransacked Mr. Bu Qingfan’s home at 5 a.m. on May 9, 2023 and confiscated several books.

18. [Qingdao City, Shandong Province] Mr. Zhang and Ms. Li Qing Arrested

Mr. Zhang, a teacher from Qingdao University, and Ms. Li Qing, were reported to police for talking about Falun Gong when they were taking a tour in Southern China. They were arrested by officers from the Shugang-Shouxihu Scenic Area Police Station of Yangzhou City on March 24, 2023. They were denied admission by the detention center on April 25, 2023 because of high blood pressure. They were released on bail pending trial on April 26, 2023. Their case was submitted to the Jiangdu Procuratorate in Yangzhou City.
