(Minghui.org) Today’s news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 13 cities or counties in 9 provinces, where at least 38 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.
Ms. Wang Liyan was arrested on September 30, 2022, and was sent to the Changchun No. 2 Detention Center. She was sentenced to two years in prison. The court did not follow the law and notify her family. She has appealed.
Mr. Lin Wu will be tried on May 17, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. in the Maoming City No. 1 Detention Center. His lawyer received the notification from the Maonan District Court on May 12, 2023.
Ms. Guo Fenglian received a call from the Yaodu District Court at 4:00 p.m. on May 12, 2023. She was notified that prosecutor Hu Wuping filed her case to the court. She was summoned to the court the following Monday.
Ms. Yang Dongxiang and her husband Mr. Zhou Hongda live in Xianning City. They babysat their grandchild in their son’s home in Wuhan City. They talked to local residents about the persecution of Falun Gong in 2022. Someone reported them. They were released on bail pending trial. They received a phone notification on May 12, 2023 that their case was submitted to the Wuchang Procuratorate and they were summoned to the procuratorate on May 15, 2023.
Practitioners who live in Dehui City, Zheng Yuming, Xie Yuxiang, Su Cuizhi, Wang Guiying, Liu Zhongrong, and others, have been held in the Dehui City Detention Center for 80 days. Four of the practitioners’ cases have been submitted to the Dehui City Court.
Mr. Han Ximin and his wife Ms. Du Qingxiu were arrested at their home in Chaoyang City on May 12, 2023.
Mr. Han was given forced labor terms three times. He was brutally beaten, shocked with electric batons, made to do forced labor, etc.
Ms. Du was imprisoned for 15 months and did forced labor. She was beaten and tortured. Persecutors tied her wrists together with a thin stout cord, then hung her up. This torture method is called “tie-and-hang.” They tied her wrists and ankles and hung her from the four poles of a bunk bed, in a torture called “stretching.”
In 2013, she was sentenced to six years in prison for sending messages about the persecution of Falun Gong. She was imprisoned in the Liaoning Women’s Prison, where she was brutally beaten and verbally abused.
Ms. Zhou Shuwen babysat her grandchild in her daughter’s home in the Hedong District. She was arrested by officers from the Shanghang Road Police Station for distributing Falun Gong flyers. Her home was ransacked. After she was released, she was subpoenaed to answer questions. The Hedong District Procuratorate recently reviewed the indictment and put her under house arrest.
Cui Guisen (gender unknown) talked to people about the persecution of Falun Gong in Lingyuan City on April 1, 2023. A middle school student reported and followed Cui. Cui was arrested and photographed by officers from the South Street Police Station, but managed to escape.
Community clerks knocked on Cui’s door on April 4. Cui did not answer.
On April 27, 2023, Cui was arrested in his or her apartment by officers from the South Street Police Station and clerks from the Dongcheng Community. They ransacked the place, and confiscated Falun Gong books, a picture of the founder of Falun Gong, and other items. Cui was held for 15 days in the Chaoyang City Detention Center and was released on May 12, 2023.
Mr. Hou Lijun was arrested by officers from the Xiaojingyu Police Station on April 25, 2023. He is being held in the Taiyuan No. 1 Detention Center. On April 25, 2023, he went on a hunger strike to protest his arrest. Guards forced-fed him every day. His situation is life threatening.
Ms. Zhang Zhifang, Ms. Guo Yajuan, and Mr. Dapeng (nickname) were arrested at Ms. Zhang’s home by officers from the Binjiang Police Station on April 25, 2023. The officers ransacked the place and seized their Falun Gong books. After they were taken to the police station, Ms. Zhang was so terrified that she could not hold her head up or walk normally. She was released the same day. The police went to Ms. Guo’s home, ransacked the place, and seized more than 40 Falun Gong books.
Ms. Guo was given 10 days’ administrative detention and was released on May 6, 2023.
Mr. Dapeng’s whereabouts are not known. Case officer, deputy director Huang of the Binjiang Police Station, said Mr. Dapeng might be detained for 15 days.
Ms. Huang Hezhu’s daughter (not a practitioner) was arrested by Nanqiao Police Station officers. They pressured her to tell them her mother’s address. On May 11, 2023, officers arrested Ms. Huang at her home. They ransacked the place and seized her MP3 player and SIM card which had Falun Gong exercises music. They took her to the Nanqiao police station. They tried to make her write a guarantee statement renouncing Falun Gong. She refused. She was released several hours later.
Mr. Long Jiamu has been repeatedly harassed since the beginning of February 2023 by instructor Huang Dehua and director Zhang from the Shuangshi Town Police Station, community clerk Li Qiang, town secretary Zhao Dejiang, and others.
During March 2023, the Chinese Communist Party’s annual political meetings of National People’s Congress and Political Consultative Conference, Zhao Dejiang and others made Mr. Long stay home when he needed to work on his farm. They searched his place, but did not find anything.
On the morning of April 25, 2023, Huang Dehuang, Zhao Dejiang, and others searched his home again without a warrant. They also took photos.
13. [Xianning City, Hubei Province] Mr. Mei Xinhua ArrestedMr. Mei Xinhua was arrested a couple days ago.
Mr. Han Ximin and his wife, Ms. Du Qingxiu, fled to Chaoyang City to avoid persecution. They were arrested in their rented apartment by officers from the Beita Police Department on May 12, 2023. The officers ransacked the place.
The couple have been repeatedly persecuted for practicing Falun Gong. Ms. Du was sentenced to six years in prison. After imprisonment, the couple had to flee their home to avoid further persecution. The couple’s whereabouts are unknown.
Yang Jiwu (gender unknown) and Ma (first name and gender unknown) live in Xiaheshou Village of the Longcheng District. Officer Yang Shuanghe and more than ten officers from the Xinhua Police Department ransacked their homes after 11:00 a.m. on May 12, 2023. They seized their Falun Gong books, pictures of the founder of Falun Gong, and other belongings.
Ms. Han Yuxia, in her 80s, lives in the Hexi District. Her home was ransacked by officer Ma Zhigang from the Hexi Police Department, community office Ge, and three others around 2:00 p.m. on May 11, 2023. They said they came to inspect the gas and deceived her into opening her door. They grabbed her Falun Gong books and a picture of the founder of Falun Gong. She struggled with them and finally got the books back, but not the picture.
Ms. Su Chengfang of Lianjiang City was arrested at her home on the third floor around 6:00 a.m. on May 11, 2023.
Mr. Li Xueyi lives in Linxia City. Mr. Wei Suichun lives in Huachi County, Qingyang City. They work in the Yushu Industry Park in Yulin City, Shannxi Province. Someone reported them for distributing Falun Gong flyers. Police from the Yuyang District of Yuyang City had the video from surveillance system and arrested them at work on April 1, 2023. The Yuyang District Procuratorate issued the arrest warrants on May 9, 2023. They are being held in the Yuyang District Detention Center.
Ms. Li (first name unknown), in her 50s, and her husband Mr. Ma (first name unknown) were arrested at home around 8:00 a.m. on May 9, 2023. Seven or eight officers from the Jishu Police Station broke into their home, claimed that someone reported them, and ransacked the place. The officers seized a roll of tape and took the couple to the police station. Ms. Li was detained for 15 days. Mr. Ma was released the next day.
Dong (first name and gender unknown), 89, was harassed by seven or eight officers at the same time. They banged on Dong’s door. Dong’s son opened it. The officers arrogantly pressured Dong to tell them who he or she was in contact with, and tried to search the place without a warrant. But they failed.
Practitioner Cao’s (first name unknown) mother’s home was ransacked illegally by seven or eight officers at the same time. Afterwards, they went to the home of Cao’s brother and ransacked the place. They did not find anything. The mother was traumatized.
Ms. Deng Hongyan’s store was ransacked by seven or eight officers at noon on May 9, 2023. When Ms. Deng and her husband Mr. Dou Hexin came to the store, the officers ransacked their car, took them to their home, and ransacked the place. They did not find anything. They took them to the police station for questioning. They were released three hours later.
The same day, four or five people knocked on Ms. Yang Dianying’s door in the morning, at noon, and in the afternoon. Ms. Yang learned that she was monitored for some time.
Ms. Tai Lijuan’s daughter was harassed at home by two officers around 11:00 a.m. on May 13, 2023. They pressured her to tell them her mother’s whereabouts. The officers said they could arrest her no matter where she went. Neighbors saw the police knock on Ms. Tai’s door in the afternoon, but they left when no one answered it. Her daughter received a call from Shulan Police Department at 4:00 p.m. The caller asked where her mother was.
