May 26, 2023 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Liaoning Province, China

(Minghui.org) A 76-year-old resident of Fushun City, Liaoning Province was recently sentenced to a four-year prison term for practicing Falun Gong. The local prison declined to admit her due to her poor health, but the police still refused to release her and kept her in the Nangou Detention Center.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Sun Wenwen, a retired factory worker, was arrested on May 17, 2022, while talking to people about Falun Gong at a farmers’ market. The police raided her home on the same day and confiscated her Falun Gong books. She was released on bail at around midnight, after her family was forced to pay an 8,000 yuan bail bond.

The police kept harassing Ms. Sun for the next few months, while submitting her case to the Procuratorate to seek prosecution of her.

Ms. Sun was indicted on August 8, 2022. When she found out she was scheduled to appear in the Dongzhou District Court on September 15, she decided to live away from home and hide from the authorities. She was arrested months later and held in the Nangou Detention Center.

The Minghui.org website recently confirmed that Ms. Sun has been sentenced to a four-year prison term by the Dongzhou District Court, and remains incarcerated at the Nangou Detention Center, after the prison refused to take her.

Ms. Sun took up Falun Gong in July 1996. She credited the practice for changing her from a competitive person to someone who is considerate and kind. Her bronchitis and gynecological diseases also disappeared thanks to the practice.
