(Minghui.org) My husband woke up in the middle of the night to vomit after eating leftovers for dinner. He noticed his vision was blurry at work the following day, and he was weak and confused. He lost his sense of direction when he drove home that night.
I was visiting my daughter, and when I returned home a week later I could see he had lost weight. He complained because he was always tired.
My husband began to practice Falun Dafa in 1997. He regularly did the exercises, but rarely read the Falun Dafa books. I failed to remind him about the importance of Fa study. Consequently, his thinking was like a non-practitioner, and he went to the doctor. The doctor said he had high blood pressure, diabetes, and had suffered a stroke.
I shared my understandings based on the Fa principles with him. “Dafa practitioners do not come down with illnesses,” I said. “Our sickness karma is a manifestation of our past bad deeds from many lifetimes. Once we begin to cultivate, we eliminate our karma by enduring hardships, overcoming sickness karma, and suffering so we can repay our debts.”
To help him understand, I said, “Master Li (the founder of Falun Dafa) purifies and adjusts our body. He helps us remove the karma. Thus, taking medication, injections, and infusions pushes the karma back into our body.”
I explained that his illnesses were illusions, and as long as he did the exercises and read the Dafa books, he could eliminate the illusions and improve his cultivation level.
My husband then began to have righteous thoughts. He gained more confidence by studying the Fa, doing the exercises, and sending forth righteous thoughts. After doing the exercises he cheerfully said to our daughter, “I’m feeling clear-headed now. Let’s go for a drive! I can drive anywhere you want to go.”
Then he added, “First I need to take my medication.” It was obvious he didn’t have a firm belief in Dafa yet and was still concerned about his “illness.” His cultivation state wavered.
I encouraged him with righteous thoughts, regardless of his behavior. I denied the false appearances, and his negative words and actions, because they were driven by fear, thought karma, and human notions.
For example, when he said he couldn’t see things clearly, I would say, “You can see, and your eyes are fine. Every part of your body is filled with high-energy matter. You’re not sick.” If he said he couldn’t walk up the stairs, I would tell him, “Wisdom is Enhanced and Powers Strengthened.” (Chapter IV, Falun Gong)
When I saw people with symptoms of a stroke and the way they moved, I thought of my husband too. I quickly rejected it, “This is not my thought, and it has no power. Destroy it completely!”
I maintained this thought at all times: “Everything Master has given us is the best, and he didn’t arrange these negative things for me. I will only follow Master’s arrangement. Master changed my path in life and there won’t be any danger. My husband’s abnormal state is to help us improve.”
The more I studied the Fa, the better I understood the Fa principles. I felt more at ease, my righteous thoughts grew stronger, and my husband’s condition improved. He finally recovered and became a genuine practitioner.
When a practitioner encounters tribulations, it is important that those around him can provide support with righteous thoughts. When we form “one body,” and hold strong righteous thoughts, all kinds of interference will disappear.
I did poorly with the situation initially. My human emotions influenced me. I complained and was angry with my husband. I didn’t like that he didn’t live up to my expectations, I was afraid he couldn’t overcome the ordeal, and I lacked compassion. Fortunately, I was able to catch my attachments and eliminate them. And studying the Fa helped me assimilate to the Fa.
