(Minghui.org) Ms. Kyungsoon Choi is the Director of Nursing at a hospital in South Korea. She always has a smile on her face. Whenever she encounters difficulties, be they conflicts with patients or nurses, quarrels between departments, or confrontations between department heads, she can deal with them calmly.
What is the secret to keeping a calm heart and not complaining?
Ms. Kyungsoon Choi, the Director of Nursing at a hospital in South Korea, said she found the meaning of life after practicing Falun Dafa.
Ms. Choi dreamed of becoming a good wife and mother, but her marriage was challenging from the beginning. At first, her husband used his spare money to invest in stocks, but in the end he even lost his business capital. He constantly watched the stock market trying to recover his losses. No matter how his friends and family tried to dissuade him, it was useless. Ms. Choi was under tremendous stress. Her husband often got drunk and cursed people. Every day was filled with tears.
“My husband insisted on his opinion,” she said. “I could not get through to him. He did not care about the family’s finances. I wanted to divorce him, but I hesitated when I thought of our young daughter and our parents. So I decided to swallow my pride and I planned to get a divorce after my daughter grew up and my parents passed away. It was a really tough time.”
In 2010, shortly after Ms. Choi’s parents passed away, she saw her mother in a dream. Ms. Choi thought that maybe the location of her tomb was improper, so she went to see another cemetery. On the way home she confided in her friend that her life was miserable due to her husband’s alcoholism.
“My friend told me that there was a way my husband could quit drinking. She wrote down a website address on a piece of paper—the Falun Dafa website address.”
Ms. Choi forgot the note, and several months passed. To make ends meet, she found a job in a hospital. One day she suddenly remembered the little piece of paper and visited the Falun Dafa website.
The words, “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, free teaching,” piqued her interest. Ms. Choi said she felt this was very real. She asked the lady who wrote the note to send her a copy of Zhuan Falun, the main book of Falun Dafa.
All the questions Ms. Choi had about life were answered in the book. She reads it whenever she has a chance and continues to gain new insights.
After learning the exercises at a nearby practice site, she could feel the changes in herself. Her skin became finer and her body felt lighter. The biggest change is that she no longer wonders why things happen or about the meaning of life.
“Before I found Falun Dafa, I was exhausted. I didn’t know what I was living for. I felt like a sailboat drifting at sea. Since I began practicing, no matter what difficulties I’ve encountered, I’ve been able to remain calm. I’ve become strong.”
But two years later, her husband objected to her cultivation and suddenly filed for divorce. They even went to court twice. Ms. Choi’s resentment and hatred for her irresponsible and lazy husband would well up in her mind. She decided to let go of her attachments and cultivate her xinxing.
“I decided to let go of the idea of divorce, and I also let go of my resentment for my husband. That was when the situation at home gradually began to change. I realized that only when I really let go of these thoughts did the conflicts begin to disappear, and the environment changed.”
Afterward, Ms. Choi’s husband suffered from angina pectoris and quickly quit drinking and smoking. Life at home became harmonious, and her once-depressed daughter became cheerful and smiled again.
Her husband no longer objected to her cultivation and even began to encourage her to practice.
In 2018, she became the director of nursing in a hospital. As the head of nursing, she has to coordinate a lot of work in the hospital. She also conducts countless employee interviews when openings come up and takes care of many issues.
A patient kept complaining that the cleaning was not kept up well since a member of the cleaning staff had resigned. So Ms. Choi had to sort the garbage and clean the bathroom herself.
“If I hadn’t practiced, I wouldn’t have done it. The hospital staff also felt that I was different from other head nurses.”
When critical and sensitive patients blame the staff for their mistakes, Ms. Choi can calmly listen to the patient’s criticism despite the tense atmosphere.
“We face it with an attitude of actively listening to opinions. At first, the patient criticized me and said that I was not suitable to work in this kind of hospital. Later, the patient would not talk to anyone else but me.”
Ms. Choi, who has practiced for 13 years, realized that when encountering problems, by looking within for her own attachments, she found a way to correct the mistakes, and the situation changed.
“After practicing Falun Dafa, I try my best to be true to myself. I don’t lie, no matter who sees and who doesn’t. It takes courage to tell the truth. Even if it’s not in my best interest, I will tell the truth. Falun Dafa is my guiding light. I no longer wonder about the meaning of life. Only Falun Dafa can really show people how to improve their lives.”
Falun Dafa (also known as Falun Gong) was first introduced to the public by Mr. Li Hongzhi in Changchun, China, in 1992. The spiritual discipline is now practiced in over 100 countries worldwide. Millions of people who have embraced the teachings—which are based on the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance—and learned the five exercises have experienced improved health and well-being.
