(Minghui.org) A Yantai City, Shandong Province resident, was sentenced to one year for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Niu Guiying, who is in her seventies, and another Falun Gong practitioner, Ms. Wang Chunfeng were arrested on April 22, 2020 while distributing Falun Gong informational materials. While the police released both women on bail, they submitted the case against them to the Laishan District Procuratorate. Both practitioners were indicted on March 16, 2021 and had their cases forwarded to the Laishan District Court.

The judge extended the practitioners’ bail conditions on December 29, 2021 and held a hearing on January 18, 2022. It has been confirmed that Ms. Niu was sentenced to one year. She was taken into custody at the Mouping District Detention Center in February 2022. It’s not clear whether Ms. Wang was sentenced.

As Ms. Niu refused to wear the inmates’ uniform, the detention center guards stomped on her back and injured her. She held a hunger strike to protest and was force-fed.

After Ms. Niu was transferred to the Fushan Detention Center on June 13, 2022, she was held in solitary confinement for not renouncing Falun Gong. The room was very humid and without air conditioning. She could only cool down by wiping her body with cold water. She was also force-fed for staging a hunger strike to protest the persecution.

On August 16, 2022, with only six months left to her term, Ms. Niu was transferred to the Shandong Province Women’s Prison.
