(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 16 cities or counties in 8 provinces, where at least 26 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.
Mr. Ma Jiang was sentenced to four years in prison by Shenhe Economic Development Zone Court for his steadfast belief in Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. He was taken to the Shenyang City No. 1 Prison on August 1, 2023. Mr. Ma is currently being held in the No. 2 Ward of the Shenyang City No. 1 Prison. He was locked up in a solitary cell, and his family members could not see him or deposit money. Prison officials refused to tell his family exactly when his confinement would be lifted or when they would be allowed to see him.
Solitary confinement is implemented by incarcerating a prisoner alone in a small cell. Prisoners are not allowed to wash themselves, and they are handcuffed all day. It was reported that in severe cases, they are even shackled. They are not allowed to rest during the day, and the prison code of conduct is constantly played. The food they are given is poor quality and much less than prisoners in regular wards are given.
Liu Jia was scheduled to attend a pre-trial meeting in Pengzhou City Court at 10:30 a.m. on October 27, 2023. Liu Jia, Gong Yubin, and Nie Zongguo were scheduled to be tried at 10:30 a.m. on October 30.
Six people from Gaomi City Court and Xiazhuang Town Police Station went to Ms. Xu Xiuzhen’s home in Xiazhuang Town on the afternoon of October 18, 2023, and notified her to go to the court for trial at 9 a.m. on November 6.
The charges against Ms. Xie Mingyu, 73, were brought to the Criminal Court of Chuanshan District Court by the Chuanshan District Procuratorate. Ms. Xie was tried at 9 a.m. on October 17, 2023, and sentenced to six months in prison. She returned home at around 11 a.m. that day.
Ms. Li Shuqin and her daughter Ms. Su Nan from Kexuecheng District had their “being released on bail” lifted in 2022. Throughout 2023, the local police have frequently harassed them at home.
It was reported that Ms. Li’s life was found to be in danger after she underwent a colonoscopy in Kexuecheng Hospital. She is now undergoing emergency treatment in the intensive care unit of Kexuecheng Hospital.
Lu Qing (gender unknown) was arrested by officers from the Dongzhou District Domestic Security Division and the Dongzhou Police Station at 2 p.m. on October 19, 2023. The domestic security officers were staked out downstairs at the apartment building where Lu lives, and they ransacked Lu’s home that evening. They confiscated a printer and brochures. Lu was taken to Nangou Detention Center.
A group of six or seven people from the Fangzheng County Domestic Security Division, the Fangzheng County Police Department, and the local police station went to Ms. Jia Fengzhi’s home one afternoon in 2022. Ms. Jia was listening to Fa lectures on her MP5 player. They grabbed the MP5 player, rummaged through her house, and confiscated a calendar and paper-cuts of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance posted on her computer.
The officers then took her to the police department, where they questioned her and took notes. They asked Ms. Jia why she practiced Falun Gong and who gave her the Falun Gong content on her computer. Finally, they asked her to sign and fingerprint paperwork, then took a blood sample. They also recorded her voice. Initially the officers said that she would be detained for 15 days. After Ms. Jia’s son paid a fine of 1,000 yuan she was released on bail.
The local police station called Ms. Jia on August 9, 2023 and asked her to go there. They said that the decision to detain her was not implemented last year, and they had to enforce the detention now. The next day, the officers and Ms. Jia’s child took her for a physical examination. The results indicated that she had high blood pressure. Despite her condition, the day after the physical examination Ms. Jia was taken to Harbin City and detained there for five days before she was released.
Ms. Jia Xiufang, around 70, disappeared from her rented home on October 9, 2023. Witnesses said they saw a group of people taking Ms. Jia away. Her current whereabouts are unknown.
Ms. Li Xiuhua had just arrived at Ms. Lai Suzhen’s home one day in March 2023, when someone knocked on the door. Two officers came in and arrested Ms. Li. Afterwards the police repeatedly harassed Ms. Li’s family members by threatening to have them dismissed from their jobs or to deprive their children of education, which disrupted the lives of her family members.
The political head of Mishan City Domestic Security Division led two domestic security officers and two officers from Peide Town to Ms. Shen Aixin’s home in Peide Town on September 5, 2023. The five officers displayed a blank search warrant and ransacked the place. They confiscated a set of Falun Gong books, two photos of the founder of Falun Gong, and a Falun diagram. They filled out the search warrant and told Ms. Shen to sign it. She refused. The officers then asked her husband to sign the search warrant on her behalf.
Mr. Zhang Yutang was tried by Mishan City Court at 9 a.m. on October 12, 2023. The trial was adjourned at 11:30 a.m. Mr. Zhang defended himself with strong reasoning. His lawyer defended his innocence by citing the Chinese Constitution and other relevant laws, and asked that he be acquitted.
Judge Zhang Yang from Dongzhou District Court and prosecutor Yang Kun from the Dongzhou District Procuratorate collaborated with the police department to bring up charges based on controversial evidence and reached a final decision on Ms. Wang Caiyun’s case. Ms. Wang was sentenced to four years in prison and fined 16,000 yuan. She appealed. The second instance court has assigned judge Jin Dingwei of the Fushun City Intermediate Court to be in charge of her appeal.
Ms. Wang Ping was arrested and forcibly taken to the procuratorate by two plainclothes officers from the Emeishan City Domestic Security Division on the morning of October 11, 2023. She later learned that the police brought charges against her. In addition to the Notification of Prosecution, she was released after receiving the Notification of Obligations for Persons Under Residential Surveillance, the Notification Regarding Admitting to Crimes Committed in Exchange for Leniency, and the Notification of Criminal Suspect’s Litigation Rights and Obligations.
Several officers from the Liangtian Town Police Station arrested Ms. Qiu Guaixia and took her cell phone on the evening of July 11, 2023. They took Ms. Qiu to the police station, took photos of her, questioned her while taking notes, and coerced her into signing the transcript and paperwork before bringing her back home. When Ms. Qiu asked for her phone, they refused to give it to her. She was told to go to the police station the next day to get it, and that she would have to sign paperwork.
At around 7 a.m. the next day, the officers took Ms. Qiu to the police station again and asked her to sign a sheet. The officers deceived her by saying, “We’ll take you to the city to sign necessary paperwork, and then we can return your phone to you and you can go home.” However, the officers drove her to Yinchuan City Detention Center. Seven days later, on the morning of July 19, the officers once again forced Ms. Qiu to sign paperwork before letting her go home.
Officers from the Binnan Police Department broke into the home of Ms. Liu Chunrong, who works at the Shengli Oilfield Water Supply Company, at around 11 a.m. on October 20, 2023. They ransacked the place, confiscated some printed materials, and arrested her. She was released at around 5 p.m.
Ms. Yuan Cuifeng, about 60, from Yangzhai Township, Zichuan District, was arrested at home by more than twelve officers from the Zichuan District Domestic Security Division at 7 a.m. on September 14, 2023. It was reported that the domestic security officers confiscated printed materials and over 7,000 yuan which had information about Falun Gong printed on them. Ms. Yuan and her daughter were taken to the Domestic Security Division for interrogation. Ms. Yuan’s daughter was released that afternoon. Mr. Yuan was taken to Zibo City Detention Center on September 15.
More than twelve people from Kuang District went to the work unit of Ms. Li Guilin’s husband Mr. Wang Zhongming. They took Mr. Wang back to his home.
When officers saw Ms. Li Guilin, they asked, “Who are you going to give the materials on the bed to?” Ms. Li said, “I’ll be reading them myself.” Without explanation, the officers ransacked the place and confiscated a computer, a printer, photos of the founder of Falun Gong, Falun Gong books, and printed materials. They arrested Ms. Li.
Kaiyuan City Domestic Security Division head Wang Yi, deputy head Liu Jiansheng, along with seven or eight officers from the Xiafeidi Township Police Station, went to the homes of Ms. Su Changqin, 76, and Ms. Yang Yukun, 62, on the morning of October 19, 2023. The officers told Ms. Su and Ms. Yang that they were to be placed under criminal detention.
The officers took the two practitioners to the hospital for physical examinations. Both practitioners were released on bail for having high blood pressure and failing to meet the health requirement for detention on multiple measurements. They were released on bail in the afternoon.
Wang Yi and other officers went to the home of 53-year-old Ms. Liu Li’s son on the morning of October 19, to arrest her. Ms. Liu passed out on the spot and was taken to the hospital by an ambulance. Her life has since been out of danger.
Ms. Zhuang Mingxia and Ms. Xiao Weiwei were arrested on October 19, 2023, and taken to a detention center.
