(Minghui.org) Ms. Meng Lee was born and raised in southern Taiwan. She went to college in northern Taiwan and then settled in New Taipei City after she graduated. Her goal in life was to make money to improve her family’s finances, putting her under tremendous pressure that took a toll on her health.
Fortunately, Ms. Meng became a Falun Dafa practitioner. She now strives to live by the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance and is no longer pessimistic about everything. She overcame her struggle between too much self-esteem and lack of confidence and became an honest and positive person.

Ms. Meng’s family was well off until her father’s business failed when she was a child. They lost everything overnight and were forced to move to another town to avoid creditors. Her mother had to work in a factory to help support the family, so the young Meng had to stay at home alone after school. Children who endure hardships tend to mature earlier. When she was 10 and in the fourth grade, Ms. Meng took the initiative to clean the house, do laundry, and cook for her family. Compared to her classmates, she felt inferior and thus vowed to work hard to earn good money to improve things for her family when she grew up.
Ms. Meng decided to pursue a career in the legal field so that she could not only earn a good salary but also uphold justice. She was admitted to the law school at a private university in Taipei. Having to memorize and understand countless law provisions, court cases and interpretations, and various doctrines, her head was buried in books at the library every day.
Because of all the school work plus the pressure to prepare for the national bar exam, Ms. Meng started to feel anxious in her junior year. She had a hard time falling asleep and was up past 2 a.m. every night. Also, the allergies that had plagued her since middle school got worse, leaving her with a constant runny nose and itchy eyes. She sought medical help but got no relief.
While jogging on the school grounds in 2000, after graduating from college, Ms. Meng saw a group of Falun Dafa practitioners doing exercises. She was impressed by the peaceful music and sense of calm surrounding them. After reading about Falun Dafa in depth, she started to practice the exercises with the group.
After she started the exercises, her eyes started to itch terribly and produced a lot of thick mucus. From practitioners’ cultivation experiences, Ms. Meng knew that Master Li, the founder of Falun Dafa, was cleansing her body. She continued to do the exercises every day. Within a week, her eyes stopped oozing and no longer itched. Her nose also ran less. The most impressive thing was that she no longer had a problem sleeping.
More good things followed. Ms. Meng passed the exam to be a law clerk and became a civil servant in the central government. She got married and had a child. She also passed the civil servants’ advanced exam and was promoted to a higher position. Her future seemed to be smooth and bright.

No one's life can run smoothly all the time. There will be tests, and Ms. Meng was no exception, and she has persevered through thick and thin in her career. In the early days of her cultivation, Ms. Meng served as a law clerk at a grassroots level in the central government. Her job mainly involved enforcing tax arrears and fines. She and her colleagues faced countless protests by unhappy taxpayers over their fines. They always bore the brunt. They felt helpless and that they were being treated unfairly.
Whenever there was a protest, Ms. Meng always tried her best to communicate with the protester. She was discouraged when she could not resolve their complaints. If she was frustrated and about to get angry, she thought of Falun Dafa’s teachings that a cultivator should be considerate of other people first. She tried to put herself in their shoes and understand their feelings. Once she calmed down, the protesters would too, and then listen to the explanation. The tension would then ease.
Ms. Meng took a higher level job in the municipal government after she passed the advanced exam. Along with the promotion, her work got busier and more stressful, leading her to slack off in her cultivation. Everything then became chaotic and her health also declined. She resigned from her post three years ago and sought a lower level job in the central government.
Without realizing it, Ms. Meng had developed an air of superiority and spoke in a commanding tone when she got promoted. When she realized it, she corrected it bit by bit, and became increasingly calm and easygoing. She could patiently listen to what others said. Her family became more harmonious, especially her rebellious adolescent son.
Ms. Meng said, “My cultivation finally has returned to normal after I let go of the attachment to fortune. My headaches disappeared, and my life that was once disrupted by tedious work and pressure has become normal. Having a good quality of life is better than striving to be top dog in one’s career.”
Ms. Meng’s son Yu Cheng is in his second year of high school. He has been practicing Falun Dafa with his mother since he was a child.
Yu Cheng was strong in music but weak in science in his first and second years of middle school. In his third year, he was very busy with his regular schoolwork and preparing for the high school entrance exam. The academic pressure made it difficult for him to fall asleep, so Ms. Meng studied the Fa with him, and they meditated together for 30 minutes before he went to bed every night. After a while, he was able to sleep deeply and wake up full of energy in the morning. He did better and better on his homework, and the next year he was admitted to his dream high school.
Yu Cheng’s high school classmate Lee often went to the theater with his parents. Yu Cheng told him about the Shen Yun show and shared the Shen Yun symphony orchestra music with him. In March 2023, Yu Cheng and Lee saw the show together at the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall in Taipei.
Lee said that Shen Yun was the best performance he had ever seen. Since then, he always pesters Yu Cheng to watch videos on Shen Yun Zuo Pin (an online platform with exclusive videos from Shen Yun) during lunch breaks. He added the words “Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance” to his chat background online.
Yu Cheng also told his music teacher and classroom teacher about Shen Yun. After the show, he wrote down his feelings, and his teacher responded, “It is good to have something to look forward to every year. Your life will be richer.”
