(Minghui.org) Ms. Jiang Xiuying, 76, from Ning’an City, Heilongjiang Province stood trial on September 27, 2023 for practicing her faith, Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since July 1999.
The Hailin City Court initially ordered Ms. Jiang Xiuying, who had been out on bail, be taken back into custody after the hearing, but relented after two different hospitals found that she had high blood pressure. She was allowed to go home and is awaiting a verdict.
Ning’an City and Hailin City are under the administration of Mudanjiang City, Heilongjiang Province. The Hailin City Procuratorate and Hailin Court have been designated to handle Falun Gong cases in the region.
Ms. Jiang’s trial stemmed from her arrest on July 15, 2022 for talking to people about Falun Gong. She was released on bail later that day. The Ning’an police submitted her case to the Hailing City Procuratorate on May 30, 2023.
After Ms. Jiang was indicted, her family hired a lawyer to represent her. The lawyer reviewed her case document and discovered that the police violated legal procedures in arresting and gathering evidence against her. The lawyer then submitted a request to the Hailin City Court to deem the police-supplied evidence inadmissible in her trial.
Accompanied by a relative, Ms. Jiang went to the court on July 14, 2023 to submit a request to clear her of prosecution. The court security guard stopped her from going inside and called in four bailiffs. They attempted to arrest her and her relative, but relented when she strongly protest.
Her lawyer reviewed her case document again on July 24 and was notified on September 20 to attend a pre-trial hearing. Her court-date was set at the pre-trial hearing.
Ms. Jiang appeared in court on September 27 but returned home after she failed physical examinations at two different hospitals.
Prior to Ms. Jiang’s arrest in 2022, she was arrested on December 20, 2020 for talking to people about Falun Gong. The arresting officers from the Ning’an City First Police Station gave her ten days of detention but did not enforce it. She returned home that day.
