71-year-old Woman Given Three Years for Possessing Paper Currency Printed with Information about Falun Gong

Jan. 24, 2023 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Jilin Province, China

(Minghui.org) Ms. Kong Fanqin was sentenced to three years on December 30, 2022 for trying to raise awareness about the persecution of her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been targeted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Kong, a 71-year-old Shulan City, Jilin Province resident, was arrested at home on February 24, 2022. Her Falun Gong books and paper currency printed with information about Falun Gong were confiscated.

Due to strict information censorship in China, Falun Gong practitioners use creative ways to raise awareness about the persecution, including printing information on paper currency.

The police interrogated Ms. Kong who printed the messages on the money. She refused to answer.

When the police took her to the local lockup in the evening, she was rejected admission due to her high blood pressure. The police released her after extorting 2,000 yuan from her son.

It’s recently confirmed by Minghui.org that Ms. Kong was sentenced to three years and fined 4,000 yuan by the Shulan City Court on December 30. Other details about her sentencing aren’t clear.

This isn’t the first time that Ms. Kong has been targeted for her faith. For going to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong, she was arrested at the Tiananmen square on December 18, 2000 and detained at the Mentougou Detention Center in Beijing and later Langfang City Detention Center in Hebei Province.
