(Minghui.org) Ms. Kang Shumei and her son, Mr. Zhang Gu, both of Taiyuan City, Shanxi Province, were arrested on October 31, 2022 for practicing Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Kang’s sister, Ms. Kang Shuzhi, who currently resides in Los Angeles, is calling on the international community to help rescue her sister and nephew.
Ms. Kang Shuzhi calling for the release of her sister and nephew
According to Ms. Kang Shuzhi, she lost contact with her sister after her arrest. It wasn’t until December 13 that she managed to get in touch with Mr. Zhang’s wife and learned about his and his mother’s arrests. According to the family, the police ransacked Ms. Kang Shumei and Mr. Zhang’s shared home and confiscated their computer, printer and car. The Kang sisters’ father, who is in his 90s, was devastated by the arrests and longs for the release of his daughter and grandson.
Ms. Kang is currently held at the Gujiao No. 4 Detention Center and Mr. Zhang at the Yingze District No. 3 Detention Center. Their loved ones aren’t allowed to visit them.
While the guards allowed Ms. Kang’s family to buy daily necessities for her once or twice every month, they could only make the purchase in the shop inside the detention center. Each purchase was limited to 300 yuan and the price could be ten or twenty times higher than the market price. Because the family can’t visit Ms. Kang, they can’t confirm whether the guards delivered the items they purchased to her as promised.
Ms. Kang Shuzhi called for the Chinese authorities to immediately release her sister and nephew, and urged the officers to stop participating in the persecution.
