(Minghui.org) A Beipiao City, Liaoning Province resident was convicted on July 12, 2022 for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Jiao Guijie, 58, was arrested at home on May 27, 2020, by officers from the Beipiao City Domestic Security Office and the Xiguan Police Station. Her Falun Gong books were confiscated. Both Ms. Jiao and her husband, Mr. Gao Jinli, were interrogated for hours at the police station. Their family paid the police 4,000 yuan in exchange for their release.
The Beipiao City Procuratorate summoned Ms. Jiao in early July 2022 and told her that she had been indicted. She stood trial at the Beipiao City Court on July 12 and was sentenced to a two-year prison term, with two years of probation.
Ms. Jiao took up Falun Gong in March 1996. She credits the practice for curing her many health problems, including dysmenorrhea (menstrual cramps), dizziness, and nephritis (inflammation of the kidneys). She also became full of energy again and was able to take on many responsibilities at home, including caring for her bedridden parents, who were in their 80s and 90s.
