(Minghui.org) At least 29 Falun Gong practitioners in Suining City, Sichuan Province were arrested and 28 were harassed in the first half of 2022. Some still remain detained and some have been forced to live away from home to evade the police and further harassment.
Below are select persecution cases from this area.
Just as Ms. Zhang Zhengbi, 74, was about to enter the Chuandazhong Market on February 9, 2022, someone lifted her jacket from behind to cover her head, causing her to have difficulty breathing. She couldn’t see anything and sensed two people pushing her into a car and driving her somewhere.
After she was allowed to see again, she learned she was at the Jiahe Police Station.
The police kept Ms. Zhang in a small room and interrogated her. They blew cold air on her, denied her restroom use, and refused to give her anything to eat. They snatched her house keys from her and ransacked her home, confiscating her Falun Gong book, four media players, three cell phones, and 360 yuan in paper bills printed with information about Falun Gong (as a way to raise awareness about the persecution due to strict information censorship in China). The police made copies of Ms. Zhang’s ID and forced her to sign the deposition. She was released at around 4 p.m.
Ms. Qi Xiulan, Ms. Yang Zhongbi, Ms. Xie Mingyu and Ms. Hou Suhua were arrested on May 16, 2022, after being followed for talking to people about Falun Gong.
At the Nanjin Road Police Station, the police searched and interrogated the practitioners for more than nine hours. The police also ransacked the practitioners’ homes and confiscated a media player from Ms. Qi’s home. Her family was intimidated and forced to fingerprint a copy of her case document.
Ms. Zhang Bihua, Mr. Zhang Qilin, Ms. Zhou Yunyan, Ms. Yang Guangrong, Ms. Cao Deyuan, and two female practitioners surnamed Li and Liu were followed by the police on June 23, 2022 and then arrested. The police ransacked their homes. While interrogating the practitioners, the police showed them several photos and asked them to identify the practitioners in the photos.
All eight practitioners were released that evening, but Ms. Zhang Bihua was ordered to report back to the police station when summoned, after the police found Falun Gong-related items at her home.
Ms. Yang Sizhen and her husband, in their late 60s, have been forced to live away from home for almost 14 years in order to avoid the persecution. They also chose not to contact their family so as to prevent them from being implicated. The police, though, have kept pressuring their family to turn Ms. Yang in.
In mid-April 2022, officers from the Fuyuan Road Police Station called Ms. Yang’s daughter and asked where Ms. Yang was. She refused to answer. The village Party secretary called Ms. Yang’s daughter again on June 11 and ordered her to go to the police station on June 13. She still refused to comply.
Ms. Li Yuqiong from Lanjiang Town has been harassed constantly by the local police and was ordered to sign statements to renounce Falun Gong, which she refused. The authorities attempted to search her home, but she didn’t let them in. Then they arranged people to stay outside of her home to monitor her and threatened to suspend her household registration. To avoid the persecution, Ms. Li has lived away home. Now her husband and son are constantly receiving harassing calls from the police.
