After Serving Five Years in Labor Camps, Shandong Woman Faces Prosecution Again for Her Faith

March 19, 2022 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Shandong Province, China

(Minghui.org) Having served two labor camp terms totaling five years, a Dezhou City, Shandong Province resident is facing prosecution again for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Li Xiaoxia, in her 50s, was arrested in a police sweep on November 2, 2021. She is being held at the Dezhou City Detention Center and her arrest has been approved.

Ms. Cao Xiaoyan, another practitioner who was arrested on the same day, was released a few days later and put on residential surveillance for six months. The police didn’t allow her to go out. She later found out that the police installed a listening-in device under her couch.

Eight months prior to Ms. Li’s arrest, two police officers and the village secretary went to her home to try to order her to renounce Falun Gong, but she wasn’t home.

Past Persecution of Ms. Li

Ms. Li lived a very tiring life before taking up Falun Gong. Her husband has three children from a previous marriage. Both his mother and uncle, who has a brain disease, live with them. She also suffered some ailments herself.

A relative recommended Falun Gong to her in February 1999. After reading Zhuan Falun, the main text of Falun Gong, Ms. Li understood that tribulations in life were related to one’s own karmic debt. She no longer felt resentful towards her husband, but worked on her own character to harmonize the family. Moved by her positive changes, her husband quit drinking and became more considerate.

The communist regime ordered an all-round persecution of Falun Gong only five months after Ms. Li took up the practice. She was repeatedly arrested and harassed for upholding her faith.

Following her arrest on October 8, 2000, Xian Dehai of the Pingyuan County 610 Office and Li Feng of the Domestic Security Office took her directly to the Wangcun Forced Labor Camp to serve a three-year term.

Ms. Li was arrested again at home on April 25, 2006 and taken to the local detention center. She escaped and was forced to become displaced. A few months later, she returned home to see her family, only to be arrested again and taken to the Jinan No. 1 Women’s Forced Labor Camp in September 2006 to serve two years.

She was tortured and forced to work without pay while serving time in the labor camps. The guards often forced her to sit on a hard stool for long hours without moving, and verbally abused her at will.

The police harassed her again in May 2016 and ordered her to sign a statement to renounce Falun Gong at the police station. They threatened to harass her every day if she didn’t comply.
