(Minghui.org) A 79-year-old Tianjin resident was recently sentenced to one year in prison for practicing Falun Gong. She was allowed to serve time at home and ordered to report to the police station regularly.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Li Zhongying, who credits Falun Gong for curing her cancer, was arrested in July 2021, after being reported for talking to people at a farmers’ market. The police ransacked her home and confiscated her Falun Gong books.

Although the police released Ms. Li shortly after, they kept harassing her at home and also extorted 5,000 yuan from her. The Wuqing District Court later sentenced her to one year.

According to information collected by Minghui.org, in 2021 alone, 48 Falun Gong practitioners in Tianjin were sentenced, 109 were arrested, 306 were harassed and 14 had their pension suspended.
