(Minghui.org) A married couple in Beijing was sentenced to prison in early December 2021 for their shared faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Mr. Xing Guoqing and Ms. Zhang Jie received a call from a local residential committee staffer on March 2, 2021, asking to visit them. As soon as they opened the door, a group of police officers barged in and confiscated their computer, printer, Falun Gong books and other personal belongings. They were held at the Fengtai District Detention Center.

The couple stood trial at the Fengtai District Court on September 17, 2021. A witness named Feng Guozhong testified that he found a plastic bag at his door. He took it home and found Falun Gong materials in it. He called the police, who found it was distributed by the couple after going through surveillance videos.

The judge announced the verdicts of the couple on December 3: Ms. Zhang was sentenced to twelve months with 1,000 yuan fine and Mr. Xing was given ten months, also with 1,000 yuan fine.
