New Australian Chinese Immigrants: Distressed Family Finds a Way Forward

Aug. 9, 2021 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Melbourne

(Minghui.org) Ms. Wang, her husband and three young sons immigrated to Melbourne from China three years ago. As a new immigrant, Ms. Wang was exhausted with her busy life and worries about her husband. She recalled that in July and August of 2020, “My family was in a hopeless situation as we needed to adapt to the new environment. My husband had been in poor health, our three children were very naughty and difficult to discipline. My husband was in a very bad frame of mind. He had a bad temper, lost sleep and sometimes he played computer games to handle the stress.” She even prepared for the worst.

However, everything changed for better when her husband watched a Shen Yun trailer online. After learning the truth about Falun Dafa, she and her husband began to practice Falun Dafa. This is their story.

From Rejecting the Truth to Starting Falun Dafa Cultivation

Ms. Wang was a radical communist follower when she lived in China. Over the past 22 years, the CCP’s slander and propaganda against Falun Gong (also called Falun Dafa) has not only deceived people in China, it also blocked overseas Chinese from understanding the beauty of Dafa. Ms. Wang was one of those affected by the negative propaganda, both in China and overseas.

She recalled, “One day after immigrating to Australia, I went to a grocery store. A lady gave me a flier and asked me if I had quit the Young Pioneers (a communist youth organization) that I joined when I was young. I didn’t answer her and just took the flier politely and left. When I got into my car, I saw the words ‘Falun Gong’ on the flier. I threw it away without reading through it. I had been brainwashed by the “self-immolation hoax” repeatedly when I was in elementary school. Therefore, I didn’t want to have any connection with Falun Gong.”

In 2020, the couple began to clearly see the true nature of the CCP from the virus outbreak in the city of Wuhan and how it was handled by the Chinese government. Ms. Wang said, “We did not know the truth about the Three-Year Famine, or the Tiananmen Square Massacre, or the forced organ harvesting from Falun Gong practitioners when we were in China.” Being overseas gave them a different perspective.

It was a this same time that Ms. Wang’s family was in distress.

She explained, “After immigrating to Australia, we couldn’t adapt to the new environment and everything was a mess at home. My husband had health issues for a long time. He used to practice qigong, taught himself Chinese medicine and tried various exercises. But nothing seemed to help. Gradually, he became depressed and bad-tempered.”

Ms. Wang’s husband started to play video games to handle the stress. She had to take care of everything at home, and was worried about her husband’s health. She said, “I would hurry to get home after grocery shopping, as I was worried that something would happen to my husband at home. Once, the whole family went to see a Chinese doctor. My husband was in a bad mood and drove very fast and I thought to myself, ‘If something happens, we will all die together.’ It was a desperate situation for our family.

“However, one day last July or August, I walked into our room and saw him reading something on his cellphone. He looked up at me and smiled. I had not seen him smile for so long! His smile was warm and calm. I felt as if he was a different person. He did not seem his usual resentful and stubborn self. He told me he was reading Zhuan Falun.

“He told me that he had watched a 30-second video clip of Shen Yun online many times. Every time he watched it, he cried. He had finally learned the truth about Falun Gong and started to read Zhuan Falun. He said he’d found answers to all his questions and problems after all these years. So he had decided to practice Falun Gong.”

Seeing the sudden change in her husband, Ms. Wang tried to read Zhuan Falun as well and wondered how it would turn out. Since then, the couple has entered into Dafa cultivation. After the pandemic in Melbourne eased and the lockdown order was lifted, they immediately joined the group practice site near their home.

Ms. Wang said, “We understand the truth of Falun Dafa through watching the documentary ‘Now and For the Future.’ We were very emotional at that time. Dafa is the ultimate beauty, truthfulness and compassion. But it is slandered and so many kind Dafa practitioners are brutally persecuted. The CCP is the real cult.”

Children’s Change

“My husband quickly recovered and became very happy. My children have changed a lot too,” Ms. Wang said. “In the past, when my three sons did not behave, my husband would be angry and blame me for not teaching them better when they were young. When we got angry and disciplined the children, they would behave well under duress but do the same thing again the next day. It was a vicious cycle. Therefore, they fought, argued, and competed with each other every day.”

Ms. Wang continued, “After we began Dafa cultivation, the situation at home has changed a lot. Since we have changed, our children also changed. They stopped arguing and fighting. Our home became harmonious. Once, one of our sons asked, ‘Mother, is there any bad person that changed into a good person after practicing Falun Dafa?’ Before I could answer, another son answered, “Yes! You see, Dad had a bad temper before, and he has changed!”

After the pandemic lockdown eased, the couple started working. Ms. Wang became very busy, as she had to work and still handle all the housework as usual. Since reading Zhuan Falun and doing the exercises every day, she feels very calm. Nothing can disturb her, whether noisy children, or extra housework, or work.

“That feeling is hard to describe, a very comfortable feeling,” she said. “One day, my child had a temper tantrum and I handled it very well. My husband said that he had never seen me like this. In the past, when a child threw a tantrum, I was at a loss for what to do. It always ended with me compromising and letting him have his way. Now I am able to speak reasonably to my kids while maintaining righteous thoughts.

“Our family can maintain a peaceful atmosphere because our whole family plays a ‘game’ every day. Our sons start to clean up the living room at 9:00 p.m. After washing up, they jump on our bed and sit down. Then we start our daily meeting before bed every night. We take half an hour to look at our shortcomings. As a result of our daily sharing, our kids are improving gradually. They have become more peaceful and know that fighting is not good. They have learned to find their own shortcomings and see the good in others. I often play Minghui radio programs for us as a family.”

So happy with the family’s tremendous changes, both physical and mental, Ms. Wang shares her parenting story with Chinese families in Melbourne in the form of articles. In one article she wrote, “Do you enjoy a deceitful social environment? Or you would like to give your children a beautiful world full of love and kindness? Then, every parent should take action and teach their children the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance, and enrich their spiritual world.”

Ms. Wang also called her family and friends in China to tell them about the truth of Falun Dafa. She said, “I can understand that many people have been deceived by the CCP, like I was. They never had a chance to know Falun Dafa, so they automatically reject it when they hear it. Now, I use words that ordinary people can understand to explain the principles of Dafa, so that they can understand the beauty of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance.”
