(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 23 cities or counties in 12 provinces, where at least 38 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.

1. [Huai’an City, Jiangsu Province] Three Practitioners Sentenced for Up to Seven and a Half Years in Prison

Ms. Zhang Suying was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison. She appealed, but the original verdict was upheld by the Intermediate Court.

Ms. Lin Cuihua was sentenced to seven years in prison by the Qingjiangpu District Court in March 2021.

Ms. Meng Xiaojing was arrested in September 2019 and has been held in a detention center. Her family was informed in March 2021 that she had been sentenced to three and a half years in prison by the Qingjiangpu Court.

2. [Chongqing] 67-year-old Ms. Cao Xuejun's Elderly Persons Allowance Suspended

Ms. Cao Xuejun, 67, from Bishan District was previously sentenced to 18 months in prison by the Tongliang District Court in August 2017.

She was arrested again and tried in the Chongqing City Court on January 22, 2021. Her elderly personal allowance of 100 yuan per month was suspended by the Social Security Bureau without her being notified.

Ms. Cao has been harassed frequently by community staff members and the police. She was pressured to sign a guarantee statement, but she refused. The officers threatened to put her in prison if she didn’t sign it.

3. [Tangshan City, Hebei Province] Mr. Sun Jianzhong Facing Trial

Mr. Sun Jianzhong from Fengrun District was arrested on July 22, 2020. He is due to be tried in the Zunhua Court at 9 a.m. on July 19, 2021.

4. [Fushun City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Xu Dewu Sentenced to Four Years in Prison

Mr. Xu Dewu from Weiziyu Town, Xinbin County, was sentenced to four years in prison by the Shuncheng District Court on April 21, 2021. He appealed to the Intermediate Court and received the second-instance ruling on July 15, stating that the original verdict had been upheld, and he had been fined 4,000 yuan.

5. [Wuzhong City, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region] Cases Against Four Practitioners Submitted to Court

Cases against Ms. Zheng Fengying, 69, her husband Mr. Ma Xunde, 72, Ms. Zheng Yarong, 44, and Ms. Yan Ying, 58, who is from Yinchuan City and has Post-polio syndrome, were submitted to the Litong District Court by the Litong District Procuratorate in either late June or early July 2021.

6. [Luohe City, Henan Province] Ms. Li Ailian and Ms. Huang Chunlan Arrested and Detained

Ms. Li Ailian and Ms. Huang Chunlan were arrested by officer Zhen Jiangong from the Yancheng District Police Department.

Ms. Li was detained in a hostel, near the intersection of Yanxiang Road, to undergo brainwashing sessions for two days. She was then taken to the Luohe Detention House.

Ms. Huang was taken to the No. 2 Detention Center in Luohe City.

7. [Hulin City, Heilongjiang Province] Case Against Ms. Zeng Jianjiang Submitted to Court

Ms. Zeng Jianjiang received a call from the Jidong District Procuratorate on May 28, 2021, informing her that she needed to go there. Ms. Zeng said she was unable to go due to her health.

Ms. Zeng’s husband, a non-practitioner, received a call from Cheng Peisen of the Hulin Domestic Security Division on the morning of June 3. Cheng told Ms. Zeng’s husband to take Ms. Zeng to the procuratorate. After he explained that his wife had had a stroke, had high blood pressure and heart disease, Cheng wanted to see the medical records to prove this.

Procurator Liu Li from the Jidong District Procuratorate and two others went to Ms. Zeng’s home on June 8. They recorded a statement from Ms. Zeng.

Ms. Zeng’s husband received a call from the Jidong District Court on July 15 informing him that Ms. Zeng needed to go to the court. After he said she couldn’t, he was told that someone from the court would go to his home in a few days.

8. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Wang Jingli Arrested and Detained

Ms. Wang Jingli was arrested by officers from the Jianguo Police Station in Daoli District on June 10, 2021. She has been held in the No. 2 Detention Center in Harbin City for over 30 days. Ms. Wang has a head injury and loose teeth due to being beaten in the detention center.

9. [Beijing] 82-year-old Ms. Sun Zhongfang Arrested

Several officers from the Panjiayuan Police Station in Chaoyang District went to the home of 82-year-old Ms. Sun Zhongfang on June 20, 2021, and claimed that she had been distributing Falun Gong materials. They ransacked her home and confiscated the book Zhuan Falun and copies of Minghui Weekly.

Ms. Sun was taken to the local police station and interrogated. She was later taken to the hospital for a physical examination.

10. [Weihai City, Shandong Province] Ms. Zhao Shufen Arrested

Ms. Zhao Shufen from Wendeng District was reported to the police for distributing truth-clarifying booklets in the Development Zone Market and was arrested on July 14, 2021. She was released later that day.

11. [Beijing] Mr. Meng Fansheng and His Wife Ms. Cui Yongfen Arrested

Mr. Meng Fansheng and his wife Ms. Cui Yongfen from Ji County in Hebei Province, were followed by police for talking to people about Falun Gong on the street. They were looking after their four-year-old grandson at the time.

The police went to their son’s home on the morning of July 2, 2021, and arrested the couple.

12. [Chengdu City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Gou Sulian Arrested

Six plainclothes officers went to Ms. Gou Sulian’s home on the morning of July 13, 2021. They arrested her and three other middle-aged women that were there at the time.

13. [Liuhe County, Jilin Province] Ms. Zhou Xianqing Harassed

Ms. Zhou Xianqing was harassed by people from the local subdistrict office and the community office on July 14, 2021. She was pressed to sign a guarantee statement, but she refused. Ms. Zhou talked to them about Falun Gong.

14. [Jiaohe City, Jilin Province] Ms. Luo Chunyan Harassed

Ms. Luo Chunyan was harassed at her store on July 14, 2021. Zhang Bo, director of the Minzhu Police Station; officer Lin Lin; and Shuianjiayuan Community staff members, went to her store and ordered Ms. Luo’s husband to get her to sign a guarantee statement. Ms. Luo was there at the time and refused. She talked to them about Falun Gong.

15. [Chengdu City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Xu Yuanzhao’s Home Ransacked

Elderly Ms. Xu Yuanzhao from Xixian Subdistrict in Jintang County, was reported to the police for talking to people about Falun Gong on June 16, 2021. Her home was ransacked and three copies of Zhuan Falun, the book Hong Yin, a photo of Falun Gong's founder, and some cards were confiscated. She was threatened that she would be beaten to death if she was found talking to people about Falun Gong again.

16. [Zhucheng City, Shandong Province] Ms. Sun Peiying and Mr. Liu Zhaoqing Released on Bail Pending Trial

Family members of Ms. Sun Peiying and Mr. Liu Zhaoqing were informed on July 11, 2021, that they could bail out Ms. Sun and Mr. Liu with a deposit of 10,000 yuan each. Ms. Sun and Mr. Liu have been released on bail pending trial.

Ms. Sun and Mr. Liu were summoned to the Domestic Security Division on the morning of July 14, and returned to their homes later that day.

17. [Dazhou City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Liu Mingying Facing Second Hearing

Ms. Liu Mingying from Kaijiang County is due to have her second hearing at 10 a.m. on July 19, 2021.

18. [Mulan County, Heilongjiang Province] Mr. Chu Zhanhua Officially Arrested

Mr. Chu Zhanhua has been officially placed under arrest.

19. [Guiyang City, Guizhou Province] Ms. Wu Cuizhen Arrested

Ms. Wu Cuizhen from Xiuwen County was arrested on July 1, 2021. She is being held in the Xiuwen Detention Center.

20. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Case Against Ms. Chen Wenjuan Submitted to Court

Ms. Chen Wenjuan's case will be submitted to the court by the Hanyang District Procuratorate on July 21, 2021.

21. [Jinzhou City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Xu Guifeng Arrested and Detained

Ms. Xu Guifeng, who works in the Nuerhe Textile Factory, was arrested by officers from the Taihe District Police Department on July 13, 2021. She was placed under 15-day detention.

22. [Dalian City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Zhang Jun and Ms. Miao Yuhuan Arrested

Ms. Zhang Jun and Ms. Miao Yuhuan were arrested at the No. 123 Middle School by a dozen people from the district Political and Legal Affairs Committee and the education bureau on July 15, 2021. Their whereabouts are unknown.

23. [Jingmen City, Hubei Province] Ms. Pei Hong Missing

No one has been able to contact Ms. Pei Hong for more than half a month.

24. [Lanzhou City, Gansu Province] Ms. Wu Yuying Harassed

Ms. Wu Yuying, 77, from Anning District was reported to the police for talking to people about Falun Gong. She was stopped on the street by a police car on June 23, 2021.

More than 20 people including the local community director, subdistrict director, and officers from the Liujiabao Police Station, went to her home around 10 a.m. on June 24.

When the head of the police station opened the bookcase and was about to touch her Falun Gong books and a photo of Falun Gong's founder inside, Ms. Wu stopped him.

25. [Songzi City, Hubei Province] Ms. Liu Yu’e Arrested and Detained

Ms. Liu Yu’e lives in Sixianchao Village, Babao Town. Village official Zou Yongjun tried to send Ms. Liu to a brainwashing center, but she refused to go.

Several officers from the 610 Office and local police station, including Wu Jun, deputy head of the police station, ransacked her home on June 22, 2021. They confiscated three computers and several Falun Gong books.

Ms. Liu was held in the Guanaishijia Brainwashing Center for three days. She was later taken to the Gong’an County Detention Center. Ms. Liu started a hunger strike after she was arrested, which lasted for 15 days.
