Three Shandong Residents Sentenced to Prison for Their Faith

(Minghui.org) Three Linqing City, Shandong Province residents were sentenced to prison by Guan County Court on June 10, 2021 for their faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Lu Guilan, in her 70s, was sentenced to seven years and eight months.Ms. Zhou Enbo, around 65, was sentenced to four years.Mr. Li Qiwen, 54, was sentenced to three years and six months.

Ms. Lu and Ms. Zhou were both allowed to serve time at home. Mr. Li was ordered to serve time in prison.

Both Ms. Lu and Ms. Zhou were arrested at their homes on November 9, 2020. The police ransacked their places and confiscated a large amount of personal items. Due to high blood pressure, both of them were released on bail in the afternoon. The police installed surveillance cameras at their homes.

Mr. Li was arrested around December 6, 2020, and has been held at the Linqing City Detention Center since.

Both Ms. Lu and Ms. Zhou were summoned to the Guan County Procuratorate in January 2021. As their blood pressure remained very high, they were released afterwards.

Fan Haitao, the head of the Linqing Domestic Security Office, called Ms. Lu and Ms. Zhou on February 19 and told them to go to the procuratorate again the following day. Both women were ordered to sign their case documents before being allowed to go home. On the same day, Fan also went to the detention center and ordered Mr. Li to sign the document.

After the three practitioners were indicted, the Guan County Court ordered Ms. Zhou to be taken back into custody on April 6, 2021, though she was later released again. Ms. Lu remains at home after being ordered to sign a document.

The three practitioners were tried on June 4. Except for Ms. Zhou, who was brought to the courthouse, Mr. Li and Ms. Lu appeared through video calls at the detention center and her home, respectively.

Prior to the hearing, both Mr. Li and Ms. Zhou’s families were forced to pay a 6,000-yuan fine. Ms. Lu was ordered to pay a 10,000-yuan fine.

The judge announced the verdicts six days after the hearing.
