Two Heilongjiang Residents, 82 and 71, Arrested in the Latest “Zero-out” Campaign

June 15, 2021 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Heilongjiang Province, China

(Minghui.org) In their efforts to force all Falun Gong practitioners on the government’s blacklist to renounce their faith, the authorities in Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province, have been harassing and arresting local practitioners since last year.

Ms. Zhang Xiuli, 82, and Ms. Guo Lianying, 71, were among the latest victims in the persecution campaign.

Ms. Zhang Xiuli

A dozen officers from the Fendou Police Station and residential committee broke into Ms. Zhang’s home at around 11 a.m. on December 11, 2020. They ransacked it and arrested Ms. Zhang and her daughter Ms. Wu Yanping, 59. Both women were taken to the police station and interrogated. When Ms. Wu was taken to the Jiamusi City Detention Center in the afternoon, she was denied admission due to high blood pressure and released. It’s not clear if Ms. Zhang was detained.

Ms. Zhang and Ms. Wu used to work for the Jiamusi Electric Power Bureau. They took up Falun Gong in 1996. Ms. Zhang’s kidney stones, arthritis, and heart condition were soon cured.

After the persecution began, both mother and daughter were repeatedly arrested and detained for speaking up for their faith. Ms. Wu was also held in forced labor camps twice, in 2000 and 2001.

Ms. Guo Lianying

Four Jiaoqu Domestic Security Office agents went to Ms. Guo’s home on the evening of March 27, 2021. They arrested her because she had exchanged 500 yuan in banknotes with information about Falun Gong printed on them in a nearby drugstore.

The police searched Ms. Guo’s home and confiscated her laptop, two speakers, 280 yuan notes with information about Falun Gong printed on them, and two rubber stamps with the information about Falun Gong. (Due to the strict information censorship in China, many practitioners print information on banknotes to raise awareness about the persecution of their faith.)

After being detained and interrogated overnight at the Jiaoqu Police Station, Ms. Guo was taken to the hospital for a physical the next day. Due to her health issues, the Jiamusi City Detention Center refused to admit her and she was released on bail.
