Former Bank President Incarcerated for Raising Awareness about the Persecution of His faith

(Minghui.org) A Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province, man is serving a five-year term for his faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Mr. Hao Ruwen, 68, was arrested on June 17, 2019, after being reported by supermarket security for spending banknotes that had information about Falun Gong printed on them. The police confiscated his Falun Gong books, desktop computer, and cellphone.

Due to the strict information censorship in China, many Falun Gong practitioners use creative ways to raise awareness about the persecution, including printing messages on paper currency.

Mr. Hao was sentenced to five years in the Ranghulu District Court. He was transferred from the Daqing City Detention Center to Hulan Prison at the end of 2020.

Mr. Hao was an accountant and later became the president of a bank. He took up Falun Gong in 1996 and stopped taking bribes like many people do.

When the persecution began in July 1999, the police found Mr. Han and ordered him to write statements to renounce Falun Gong. When he refused to comply, he was demoted and became a regular employee. The bank also withheld his salary, but later reinstated it when Mr. Han protested.

In 2004, Mr. Hao’s home was ransacked once and his computer and other belongings were confiscated. That same year, he was placed under “house arrest” by his employer for days, during which time up to six people were assigned to watch him and try to brainwash him every day.

The police harassed him again in the “Knocking on doors” campaign in 2017.
