Improving the Relationship with My Parents Starts with Me

April 11, 2021 |   By a young Falun Dafa practitioner

(Minghui.org) I’ve been having unkind and ill feelings in my heart lately. I searched inward and thought that it was because I was still influenced by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) culture. In my heart, I asked Master Li, the founder of Falun Dafa, for help. The feelings faded a bit, but they were not completely gone. I didn’t know what was going on.

Master must have noticed my poor enlightenment quality and pointed things out in a dream. My mother was washing her hair. She washed it for a long time but couldn't get it clean. I walked over and helped wipe her hair. But then I scolded her, saying that she was slow, inefficient, and got her clothes wet. My mother held her clothes and wanted to sever our relationship.

I woke up suddenly. I was sorry and regretted what I did in my dream. It was 1 a.m. and I couldn't fall asleep again.

A Chinese proverb appeared in my mind, “Filial piety is the most important of all virtues.” I realized that I did not respect my parents.

An unfilial person who blames his parents, who always takes from them and is not grateful, is being most unkind. A person who cultivates compassion must first be respectful to one’s parents. The Fa principles permeate all levels of the cosmos, and kindness is an essential element of that.

I’m a young Falun Dafa practitioner sharing my understanding with other practitioners facing similar problems. I hope this sharing helps others resolve conflicts with their parents.
