April 10, 2021 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Guangdong Province, China

(Minghui.org) A 73-year-old Maoming City, Guangdong Province resident is appealing a three-year sentence for her faith in Falun Gong.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Luo Ji was arrested on August 10, 2020, for giving out informational materials about Falun Gong at a farmers’ market. She was released the next day and placed under house arrest.

The Maonan District Procuratorate indicted her on October 27 and moved her case to the Maonan District Court on November 11.

One day after she was tried in the Maonan District Court on November 24, 2020, the judge gave orders for her to be taken back into custody. Local detention center officials, however, refused to admit her after realizing that she had high blood pressure and coronary artery disease. The judge gave her another six months of house arrest on December 8.

Ms. Luo appeared in court again on January 8, before being sentenced to three years with a 10,000 yuan fine on February 5. She was taken into custody at the Maoming City No.1 Detention Center after being convicted.

Ms. Luo requested to appeal the verdict at the end of the trial. The Maonan District Court moved her case to the Maoming City Intermediate Court on March 9.

On March 25, her lawyer visited her at the detention center and submitted his power of attorney with the intermediate court. Judge Zhang Chi has been assigned to handle her case.

It’s reported that Ms. Luo is experiencing a dangerously high blood pressure of 210/180 mmHg and is now emaciated.
