(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 16 cities or counties in 10 provinces, where at least 43 practitioners were recently persecuted for their belief.
Ms. Ma Ying, 75, from Baicheng City, was caught on surveillance cameras when she distributed information about Falun Gong on February 5, 2021. She was arrested by officers from the Xinhua Police Station. She was later sentenced to three and a half years in prison and taken to the Changchun Women’s Prison.
This is the third time Ms. Ma was arrested and sentenced. She was arrested on February 12, 2006, and sent to a forced labor camp. In 2015, she was detained when she filed a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin, the former head of the Chinese Communist Party. She was subsequently sentenced to three years in prison in 2016.
In the second half of 2020, several Falun Gong practitioners were sentenced. Some of the cases have been closed and some are in the process of appeal.
Mr. Huang Jianmin from Dongshan Village, Rongcheng District, was sentenced to four years in prison. His wife Ms. Peng Wenjian was sentenced to three years and six months in prison, and taken to the Guangdong Women’s Prison.
Ms. Wang Yanjuan from the Chengxi area in Jiedong District was sentenced to three years and one month in prison. She was released due to serious physical problems as a result of being abused while imprisoned.
Ms. Wu Yujuan from the Jieyang Institute of Agricultural Sciences was sentenced to four years and six months in prison. She is appealing.
Ms. Lin Liqing from Rongcheng District was sentenced to two years in prison. She developed cancer after being persecuted and became extremely weak. She had to hold onto the wall to support herself when she walked. Yet the Rongcheng District 610 Office still refused to release her.
Ms. Lu Qiaoli, from Guiling Town, was sentenced to a four-year-and-six-month prison term.
Ms. Wang Jiechun from Rongcheng District was sentenced to nine months in prison. She was released after she served the term.
Mr. Li Zhenzhong is being “transformed” in the No. 8 Ward in Tailai Prison. His family members are anxious because they are being denied visits. They are also not allowed to deposit money to cover expenses for him.
Mr. Xu Baojin from Chiban Village was arrested at home by officers from the Kuaidamao Town Police Station in October 2020. The officers ransacked his home and confiscated Falun Dafa books and photos of the founder of Falun Gong.
At the police station, the officers pressured him to write “five statements” renouncing Falun Gong. The officers put photos of the founder of Falun Gong on the chair and forced him to sit on them, to force him to insult Master Li (the founder) and Falun Gong. Mr. Xu respected Master and was terrified by the officers’ order.
After returning home, he could not get over the pain and shame of failing to resist police pressure. He felt he betrayed Master and Falun Gong and committed sins against Master.
It was harvest season, and he was working in the field. Mr. Xu suddenly passed out. His family took him to the hospital for emergency rescue. He passed away.
Ms. Zhang Yunxiu was arrested by four or five officers from the Gulou Police Station while she talked to people about Falun Gong in Macheng City Pedestrian Street on March 9, 2021.
Since February 22, 2021, Ms. Song Wenxiu, 79, from Hexi District, has been harassed six times by members of the Youyi Road Sub-district Administration Office and the residential committee at her home.
Twelve people came to harass her, including residential officer Zhang Ning (from the Youyi Road Police Station), seven people including director Wang Fang (from the residential committee), and four people including Gao and Zheng (from the Youyi Road Sub-district Administration Office). They took turns coming to her home. They intimidated and pressured her to sign the three statements to give up her belief. They also threatened her and said that if she did not sign, they would come back every day.
Recently, people from the Beicang Town Police Station and the Political and Legal Affairs Committee have harassed Falun Gong practitioners within their jurisdiction on a large scale. They went in groups to practitioners’ homes and work units to harass them for extended periods of time. They recruited family members and work unit managers to pressure practitioners to write guarantee statements renouncing Falun Gong. Practitioners have rejected these demands.
Gao Xiujie (gender unknown), Ms. Yang Shulu, Mr. Ge Dazang, and Yun Hongrong (gender unknown) were among those harassed.
Ms. Luo Chengwen, 79, from Nankai District, was arrested by more than twelve officers from the Wanxing Street Police Station and the Domestic Security Division on November 26, 2020. The officers ransacked her home and confiscated over 40 Falun Dafa books, Minghui Weekly, printed materials, several U discs, three recorders, over 1,000 yuan in cash, and over 600 yuan in paper bills with Falun Gong facts printed on them. Ms. Luo clarified the facts about Falun Gong to the officers. She was taken home at 12 a.m. that night.
On the morning of December 10, two officers took her to the police station and then took her home. On the afternoon of December 16, a man and a woman knocked on her door to harass her.
Ms. Yang Chunlan from Hongjiang City was arrested by officers from the Huitong County 610 Office for distributing Falun Gong materials in 2007. She was sentenced to five years in prison.
In October 2012, she went through the retirement procedure in compliance with regulations. She has since received retirement wages with no disruption.
In January 2021, she suddenly received a notice from the Hongjiang City Social Security Bureau that her retirement pension was suspended. The notice contained no explanation but demanded she return all her retirement pension she received throughout the years.
Officers from the Huangchuan County Police Department harassed 78-year-old Ms. Li Dianqiu on February 27, 2021. They told her to go to the procuratorate to sign paperwork. They also told her to stay at home, and not to go out.
Several people from the Huangchuan County Court and the Procuratorate came to the home of 73-year-old Ms. Guo Puqin on March 4 to hold a trial. Prior to that, Ms. Guo was arrested and threatened. As a result, she became sick and bedridden. She was emaciated and barely able to speak. She could only eat noodle soup every day. The law enforcement officers continue to persecute her despite her old age.
Thirteen practitioners in Guangshan County were arrested by officers from the Guangshan County Domestic Security Division between July 20, 2020, and January 31, 2021. The practitioners are: Mr. Chen Liangwei, Mr. Liu Baoguo, Ms. Jian Xueyu, Mr. Zhu Shihou, Li Kaili (gender unknown), Mr. Chen Lianghe, Mr. Chen Yuanping, Ms. Lu Guizhen, Mr. He Yuanbing, Ms. Hu Qingxian, Ms. Hu Daoxiu, Sun Xiangrong (gender unknown), and Sheng Jiazhen (gender unknown). They were detained between five and 15 days.
Ms. Zhao Shanying, 74, is being held in the “Sickness Division.” Her case was brought to the Chaoyang District Court on March 9, 2021.
Ms. Zhang Jinying received a notice from her work unit leader on March 9, 2021, that officer Liu from the Guangwen Police Station told her and her work unit leader to go to the police station together the next morning. If she did not comply, the police would come to her work unit to look for her. Ms. Zhang refused to go.
Ms. Zhang submitted a letter of resignation to her work unit as she did not want to implicate and burden her work unit leaders.
Mr. Mao Anping and his wife Ms. Yang Fan who started a small business in Shishi City were heading back to Hubei to visit relatives on the morning of March 10, 2021.
The couple was arrested at the Jinjiang High-speed Railway Station. It was not clear why they were arrested.
The police took Mr. Mao back to Shishi City and ransacked his home in the Haofuhuayuan Residential Community that afternoon. There is no information about where he is being held.
Ms. Jiang Jiyun, 75, was reported to the police for distributing Falun Gong materials near Shenliao Road in Yuhong District on March 10, 2021. She was arrested by officers from the Donghu Police Station. Her name was previously reported as Jiang Huiyun, which was spelled wrong.
Zhang Hui (gender unknown) was arrested at home in Gaosuntang Residential Community by residential officer Huang Yuannan from Simaqiao Police Station on March 10, 2021. Officer Huang forcibly took pictures of Zhang.
Ms. Zhou Xiuhua was prosecuted on December 15, 2020. Her case was recently transferred from the Dongxihu District Procuratorate to the Hanyang District Procuratorate.
Ms. Zhou’s husband went to the Hanyang District Procuratorate on March 5, 2021, and talked to prosecutor Wu over the phone from within the reception room. Prosecutor Wu told him to sign a written document. Ms. Zhou’s husband submitted several materials to Wu through the receptionist the following day.
Ms. Zhuo was transferred to the Wuhan City Detention Center in March 2021 from the Wuhan City No. 1 Lockup Center, where she had been held.
Ms. Yu Li was arrested at home on March 8, 2021. The police ransacked her home and confiscated all her Falun Dafa books.
Mr. Zhang Liyun was taken to the Yushu City Detention Center on February 11, 2021.
Ms. Ji Shutao, 70, from Licun Town, Yibin District, was reported to the police for distributing Falun Gong materials. She was arrested by officers including Zhang from the Licun Police Station led by officer Liang Xuguang of the Yibin District Domestic Security Division on February 9, 2021. The officers confiscated a copy of Zhuan Falun and three music players.
Ms. Ji was taken to the Yibin District Police Department for interrogation and a physical examination. She was taken to the Luoyang City Detention Center in the evening for 15 days of detention.
