80-year-old Woman Arrested at a Public Plaza for Her Faith in Falun Gong

March 17, 2021 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Jiangxi Province, China

(Minghui.org) An 80-year-old woman was arrested and harassed several times in the past month for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Zou Fajin, a retired carpet factory worker in Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province, was arrested at a public plaza on February 12, 2021, the day of the Chinese New Year. The police forcibly took off her jacket and found some Falun Gong-related materials in her pocket.

Six officers brought Ms. Zou back home. Four of them held her in the police cruiser and the other two ransacked her place. Her Falun Gong books, calendars and magazines were confiscated.

The police interrogated Ms. Zou at the Donghu District Police Department and asked her where she got the materials. She refused to answer, but told the police that her high blood pressure and heart condition disappeared by practicing Falun Gong and she did nothing wrong in continuing to practice it.

The police forced her to fingerprint the interrogation record and gave her a ride home. They returned to harass her on February 15, but she wasn’t home. They waited outside of her apartment for over an hour and then left.

One officer and two residential committee staff members harassed Ms. Zou one more time on February 17 and took away Zhuan Falun, the main text of Falun Gong that the police didn't find during their home raid on the day of her arrest.

Prior to her latest arrest, Ms. Zou has been arrested multiple times and served three years in a labor camp for upholding her faith. She once had her hands and feet cuffed together when she was held at a detention center.
