(Minghui.org) A 67-year-old Laishui County, Hebei Province resident was secretly sentenced to four years for his faith in Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Chen Shuyi, with a disability in one leg due to an accident, was arrested at home on May 25, 2020. He was put on criminal detention the next day and has been held at the Laishui County Detention Center since.
Mr. Chen’s daughter-in-law, Ms. Yang Cuiling, was also arrested together with him. She was released the same evening after being interrogated. Around the same time, the police also harassed Mr. Chen’s son, Mr. Chen Shuai, who worked as a mechanic at a car repair shop. After the younger Mr. Chen was forced to live away from home to hide from the police, the officers put him on a wanted list and continued to monitor and harass his wife and son.
Due to the pandemic, Mr. Chen Shuyi’s family wasn’t able to hire a lawyer for him. They recently heard from sources that he has been sentenced to four years after a secret hearing, but they weren’t informed of the hearing, nor have they received his verdict.
Prior to his sentencing, Mr. Chen has served two labor camp terms for a total of four years and nine months between 2001 and 2011.
