(Minghui.org) I was a third-year university student in the summer of 2014 when someone gave me a mini DVD. I had no clue what was on it, but even now, I remember the brief chat I had with the woman.
I asked her about it and she replied, “You’ll find out when you run it on your computer.” Then I asked her what it cost and she said, “No, it’s free.” I took it and left.
When I returned to school that night, I took out the DVD and looked at the cover. It listed a few websites, including Minghui, Pure Insight, and the Epoch Times. I didn’t know what they were, so, driven by curiosity, I loaded it into my computer.
The first thing I saw was a short video on how to circumvent the Internet blockade imposed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). I knew that websites such as Google and Youtube were blocked, but I didn’t know why or how to access them. I soon forgot about them as there was so much more to see.
After I clicked on the Freegate Professional Version icon, I was able to connect to the server, and the Dongtaiwang website automatically opened up. I could read current news and affairs, which gave me a very fresh feeling. There was information on some things that I would never see in our local media.
After using Freegate for a few months, I found the NTDTV station. I often checked out their focus talk program. I felt good about how the hosts expressed their viewpoints and that they were so open. This was very different from the domestic TV station. Later, by browsing Google and YouTube, I learned about many things I didn’t know before, including the truth about the June 4th Tiananmen Square massacre, which was a big shock to me.
I often used the application to check things out. I remembered that when I was in primary school, every one of us was brainwashed by the CCP. None of us had access to true information—we only hear what our teachers told us. For instance, in our textbooks, Falun Dafa was labeled as a cult, even though the CCP was the true evil cult.
I realized that reality was very different from what we had learned and I wanted to see the truth. That’s how I eventually learned about Dafa.
After I read the book Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party on the NTDTV website, I understood just how evil the CCP really is. I learned about the political movements the CCP launched after it seized power and then persecuted its own people. In our history books, these things were only lightly touched upon, though they were brutal persecutions in reality.
I didn’t know much about politics, but I still had a conscience. The book gave me a brand new perspective and made me aware we had been brainwashed and deceived for decades. I also shared the application with a few classmates.
Later on, I began to learn about Falun Dafa when I watched a documentary entitled “Now and for the Future.” I listened to Master Li Hongzhi’s recorded lectures and didn’t find anything negative in them. Then I went to the Wikipedia website to read about Dafa and Master Li. The articles were written by people who hadn't been misled and misinformed by the CCP, and so the information was accurate.
I had negative opinions about Dafa before because I had been so deceived by the lies fabricated by the CCP. Right then, I changed my viewpoint. I realized that I had been deceived by the CCP for so long and started to reflect on many other things that happened in the past.
Later, I saw a page on the Chinese Epoch Times website where you could quit your membership in the CCP. I made up my mind to use a pseudonym and quit the Youth League and the Young Pioneers. As soon as I did that, my whole mind felt liberated.
Once I realized that Dafa was so wonderful, I thought about practicing it. In 2015, I went to the Falun Dafa website, downloaded Master’s exercise demonstration video and the exercise music, and began learning the exercises on my own.
However, I haven't been diligent enough in cultivation. So far, in over five years, I have only read Zhuan Falun about 20 times. When I read one chapter a day, I always remembered that I was a practitioner when I ran into conflicts. But no matter what happens, I will stick to cultivation all the way to the end.
