A 45-year-old woman in Hegang City, Heilongjiang Province, died one day after she was arrested for practicing Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Li Shuangyan was arrested on December 16, 2021, for making informational materials about Falun Gong. She was interrogated and tortured for nearly 30 hours at the Fuli Police Station. With her on the verge of death, the police ordered her husband to pick her up after he got off from work.
When Ms. Li’s husband arrived at the police station, she was unable to walk on her own and was carried out by three officers. “Let’s go home,” she said to her husband with a very low and weak voice.
Ms. Li was already dying on the way back home. Her husband called an ambulance upon returning home. Ms. Li was already dead when the ambulance arrived.
It’s not clear what torture she suffered while being held at the police station.
Ms. Li is not the only Falun Gong practitioner in Hegang City subjected to brutal persecution for their faith. According to information compiled by Minghui.org, in 2020 alone, there were 207 incidents of local residents being targeted for their faith, with 2 practitioners sentenced to prison, more than 100 arrested and had their homes ransacked, 56 detained, and 42 harassed by residential committees and police.
