(Minghui.org) A resident of Donggang City, Liaoning Province was given 15 days of detention for demanding the release of his wife, who had been arrested earlier for their shared faith in Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Liu Mei was arrested on November 7, 2021 by officers from the Xiangyang Police Station. Officers Yu Ben and Zhou Xingyu gave Ms. Liu 15 days at the Dandong City Lockup.
Fifteen days later, the police refused to release her and transferred Ms. Liu to the Fengcheng City Detention Center, changing her administrative detention to criminal detention. The police also submitted her case to the Dandong City Domestic Security Office, seeking to sentence her. Their excuse was that she continued to practice Falun Gong after having served 13 years for her faith, between 2002 and 2015.
Ms. Liu’s husband, Mr. Zhu Changming, frequented the police station to seek her release. The police arrested him on December 9 and also gave him 15 days of administrative detention.
After Ms. Liu was released on December 17, she was saddened to hear about her husband’s arrest. She called the Donggang Lockup and asked what time he would be released on December 24. The guard on duty responded that only the arresting police can pick him up, not his family. Ms. Liu is worried whether the police will continue to detain him after the 15-day detention expires.
Both Mr. Zhu and Ms. Liu took up Falun Gong in June 1995. They went to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong in 1999 after the persecution started, and were both given forced labor camp terms. They were arrested again in 2002 for making informational materials about Falun Gong and were each sentenced to 13 years.
