(Minghui.org) It’s been eight months since 68-year-old Mr. Chen Shuyi was taken to Jidong No. 1 Prison in Hebei Province to serve a four-year term for his faith in Falun Gong, and his family hasn’t been allowed to visit him or talk to him once.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Chen, a Laishui County, Hebei Province resident with a disability in one leg, was arrested at home on May 25, 2020. While he was held at the Laishui Detention Center, the authorities also denied family visits and refused to accept the clothes his family sent him.
The Zhuozhou City Court secretly sentenced him to four years in early March 2021. In the imprisonment notice his family received in late March, the space to record what court sentenced him for what crime was left blank. The notice stated that he was taken to the First Ward of Jidong No. 4 Prison on March 16, 2021, yet it only had a red seal from the prison with no official’s signature.
Mr. Chen’s family called the prison. Initially, the guards prohibited them from visiting him or sending clothes for him. As they kept calling, the guards stopped answering the phone. When someone finally answered the call, they claimed that Mr. Chen was already transferred to the Jidong No.1 Prison after one month of detention there.
His family then called the Jidong No.1 Prison and asked about his situation. The guards said they couldn’t tell them anything without asking for instruction from their supervisor. When the family called again, no one answered the call.
Worried about Mr. Chen’s safety, his family wrote to the prison, asking to have Mr. Chen call home. They haven’t received any response at the time of writing.
