Shandong Woman Sentenced to One Year for Talking to People about Falun Gong

Nov. 28, 2021 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Shandong Province, China

(Minghui.org) A 69-year-old woman in Qingdao City, Shandong Province was recently sentenced to one year for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Tian Xiulan was arrested on March 5, 2021, for talking to people on the street about Falun Gong. While being held at the Pudong Detention Center, the authorities promised to release her immediately as soon as she renounced Falun Gong. She refused to comply and was recently convicted.

In the past 22 years, Ms. Tian has been subjected to constant persecution for upholding her faith, which she credits for curing her bone spurs and Meniere’s Syndrome.

She and her husband, Mr. Liu Weixian, were both arrested on August 10, 2004. Their son was also arrested and detained for a month for trying to stop the police from seizing them.

Mr. Liu was sentenced to ten years on December 23, 2004. He was severely tortured at Jinan Prison and passed away three years after being released.

Ms. Tian was kept in a brainwashing center for a week and released after her Meniere’s Syndrome relapsed. She was arrested again a month later and given one year of forced labor in October 2004.

At Wangcun Forced Labor Camp, Ms. Tian was forced to stand and deprived of sleep for a few days. Her feet were swollen so badly that she had to cut open her shoes to fit into them. As she refused to renounce Falun Gong, the authorities took her back to the brainwashing center on August 19, 2005.

Ms. Tian’s daughter-in-law is also a Falun Gong practitioner. The younger woman was arrested during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in 2018 and detained for a month, when her son was only four years old.
