Henan Woman Sentenced to Prison for Her Faith

Oct. 10, 2021 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Henan Province, China

(Minghui.org) A Pingdingshan City, Henan Province resident was recently sentenced to four years for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Wang Meihua, 64, has been repeatedly harassed in the past two years. The police attempted to detain her, but the local detention center rejected Ms. Wang due to her poor health. She was then put under house arrest.

Ms. Wang stood trial at the Lushan County Court on September 16, 2021. The Lushan County Court is a court designated to handle Falun Gong cases in the Pingdingshan region. The presiding judge in charge of Ms. Wang’s case promised to give her three years instead of four years if she pleaded guilty. As Ms. Wang maintained that she hadn’t done anything wrong in practicing Falun Gong, the judge sentenced her to four years.

Due to her high blood pressure, Ms. Wang is now serving time at home. The judge threatened to put her in jail as soon as her blood pressure returns to normal.

Ms. Wang, a retired employee of the Pingdingshan Resin Factory, has been arrested five times for practicing Falun Gong over the past two decades.

She was first arrested in December 1999 for going to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong. She was detained for 15 days and fined 2,000 yuan.

She went to Beijing again in January 2000. One month after she came back, the police arrested her at home and detained her at the Pingdingshan City Detention Center for 36 days.

Ms. Wang went to Beijing for a third time in December 2000 and was detained for 82 days and fined 2,000 yuan. The police gave her three years of forced labor, but the Shibalihe Forced Labor Camp refused to accept her. The police extorted 500 yuan from her family when releasing her.

Ms. Wang’s fourth arrest, at her home, was in April 2002. She was detained for 15 days this time.

Her fifth arrest was on December 6, 2004. She was detained for three days and paid a 3,000-yuan bond. The police only returned 2,400 yuan a year later.
