(Minghui.org) An 85-year-old woman in Maanshan City, Anhui Province was sentenced to prison after being targeted in a group arrest for her faith in Falun Gong.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Ms. Wang Suhua and four other practitioners were arrested between April 24 and 25, 2020. The police said they had been monitoring the practitioners since March 2020 after videotaping them distributing Falun Gong materials. Officers ransacked the practitioners’ homes and confiscated their Falun Gong books, photos of Falun Gong’s founder, computers and media players.

The other four practitioners are Ms. Zhou Chunying, 87; Ms. Shen Xuemei, 85; Ms. Chen Xiufang, 84; and Ms. Ji Yinzhu, 78.

A sixth practitioner, Ms. Xie Kuaiji, 85, wasn’t taken into custody because her family objected.

Although the five arrested practitioners were released on the evening of their arrests, the police ordered them to return to the police station the following day for further questioning.

Ms. Wang was sentenced to one year and fined 10,000 yuan by the Huashan Court on November 23, 2020. It’s not clear whether the other practitioners have been tried or convicted.
